How to Save Money at Village Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I used to take both of my dogs here before they passed one of the doctors refused to put down my suffering golden retriever bc the doctor “just recently lost someone” and “couldn’t deal with death” very unprofessional in my opinion. We came back another time only to be met in the parking lot by the receptionist she said the doctor had a family emergency and couldn’t make it in. No call no email no text nothing to notify us of this change. I then started taking my cat here she’s very feisty and I warned the doctor several times that she is not afraid to bite and scratch the doctor just brushed it off. Then the doctor tried to put a swab in my cats ear my cat didn’t like that so she started struggling a bit I was also assisting the doctor by holding the cat. Then the doctor grabbed my 12 year old cat by the scruff on her neck to wear she was standing on the table with her hind legs and making the worst noise I’ve ever heard from an animal I told the doctor many times that we should stop to let her calm down the doctor said “no we have other patients to see”. My cat then proceeded to scratch her and run crazy throughout the office she was so nervous and stressed out. We went back again because the meds they gave did nothing for my cat only to be told she is having problems because of the air fresheners and prufumes we use even though we never use anything like that especially around her. A year later I’m making this review as I’m reminded of this terrible experience while looking for a new vet because my cats ear problems still persist 2 visits and 500$ later. If you truly care do not ever take ur pet here!!!!

We scheduled an appointment to get our dog neutered, but they never let us know what time so we didn’t know when to go. We called back and now they aren’t allowing us to come back to even get their shots because we didn’t end up coming… ZERO OUTTA TEN

They have been great with all three of my dogs. We've gone yearly for my dogs checkups and rabies vaccine and everytime they have been thorough and nice! I recently rescued a dog from the shelter and they were able to get me an appointment quickly. She received the rest of her shots, an exam, and had her knee problem diagnosed (without xrays, yay!). I have never had a long wait yet, and they are quick to answer the phones. When I got my dogs teeth cleaned, they came out wonderful and I know she feels so much better. Very affordable as well. I am very pleased with their services.

If I could get 0 stars, I would. We've taken our dogs here for a while and we regret it. They are so rude and unprofessional. We called to get medical records and David straight up said "No, we don't do that." and that we wouldn't understand the records. SO RUDE. I also took my dog there for a surgery this past summer and it wasn't the right surgery she needed. So, she has to get another one. My baby has been through so much unnecessary pain. Never take your animals here.
