How to Save Money at Chimney Rock Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We were seen today as a walk in for my dog's injury. They were kind, quick, professional, had a clean environment and we will probably switch all services to them. Dr. Ratliff took the time to answer all of my questions and the vet tech(I'm sorry I didn't get your name) was very comforting and caring to my pup. I also appreciate that they take walk-ins on a Saturday morning for things like this.

So far, we have had 1 visit--my mom and I for our kitties. We are dealing with two serious issues. Dr. Ratliff and his staff are wonderful people, very very kind, Dr. Chase Ratliff took time to fully consult with me over my furbaby. We are awaiting a surgery right now. UPDATE 7/3/23: Our furbaby Gemmer has sadly passed away today. We had come to Chimmey Rock Animal Hospital ( Dr. Ratliff) after having a horrible situation pertaining to Gemmer at another VET. Dr. Ratliff was as stated above very kind as well as his entire staff. Dr. Ratliff performed surgery to fix a serious condition that the other vet left her with. This surgery was wonderful, she recovered from it in amazing time, they had kept her in the hospital and I was allowed to actually go in and spend time with her every day. Dr. Ratliff did a biopsy and found Gemmer had a bad cancer, he removed a partial tumor which had previously been left in her at the other vet. This clinic and all the people there are very caring, very professional, compassionate, kind and if I was able to give them above 5 stars I would! I recommend this clinic extremely highly, if you have a furbaby who captures your heart, do the best come to Dr. Ratiff and his wonderful staff. They helped make Gemmers life better for the short time she had left. I thank them with all my heart.

After a traumatizing experience at another Vet, it's been a struggle to find a Vet that would accommodate my two fearful pups. From the email explaining how they can accommodate, to the front desk, the Vet Tech, and the Vet, they were AMAZING. Even when my dog went crazy during the exam out of fear, they remained cool, calm, and collected. Then, tried something different with the next dog to find a better solution. There was no shame only solutions to make it a better experience for my dogs. The staff were all knowledgeable and helpful. I am SO glad I found them. My only complaint was that other patients cut in line when they opened, but that's not the Vet's fault and I know now to have someone stand at the door in line for me so I can keep my dog's at a comfortable distance to reduce stress. Pricing was reasonable too!

Chimney Rock is the best vet we have ever been too. The staff is very friendly. Dr. Ratliff is so knowledgeable and takes the time to explain what is going on and what treatment will be done. We are so thankful for Chimney Rock!

Staff were all awesome. They got us in in an emergency situation. Vet was great at explaining things to us and was kind with our dogs situation. He has a kind demeanor, but was straight forward with us in a serious situation. We may possibly change vets for our dogs due to this visit.
