How to Save Money at Your Pet Dentist

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My beautiful dog Bowie had one of his upper canine tooth grow in sideways behind another and needed it removed. I was terrified of the prospect of him having to undergo the surgery. Everyone at “your pet dentist” were amazing, communicative and Calmed my fears and of course the surgery went without a hitch, Bowie bounce back the next day, even though he needed to heal it was as if nothing happened. He was well taken care of and I 100% would recommend “your pet Dentist”

I cannot recommend Dr. Greenfield highly enough—he is nothing short of a miracle worker. Unfortunately, our introduction to him was under dire circumstances. We were referred to him by Blue Pearl when our chihuahua faced a severe emergency: a traumatic injury to her lower jaw. Dr. Greenfield prepared us for the possibility that he might have to amputate most or even all of her lower jaw, perhaps to set our expectations realistically. But miraculously, he managed to save the entire jaw. Looking at her now, you’d never guess she went through such a severe injury—she looks just as she did before. During the emergency surgery to save her jaw, Dr. Greenfield discovered that she had advanced periodontal disease, despite our efforts to maintain her dental health through regular cleanings at our primary vet. The condition was so severe that, after her jaw had healed, he recommended we have all of her teeth removed. Although we were initially saddened by this decision, I can confidently say it was one of the best choices we've made for her. The transformation in her has been nothing short of remarkable. Before having her teeth extracted, we had no idea how much discomfort she was in, as she had always been a bit reserved and low-energy. But now, it’s like we have a brand new dog. She’s full of energy, running around, and playing with a zest we haven’t seen in years. It’s clear she feels so much better—her entire demeanor has changed for the better. She’s more affectionate, more interactive, and simply happier. This procedure enhanced her life it in ways we never imagined. Throughout the entire process, every surgery, Dr. Greenfield was extremely communicative, keeping us informed before, during, and after the surgery. His transparency and clear explanations helped us feel more at ease during a very stressful time. Additionally, his staff is also wonderful—they are so nice and sweet to our chihuahua, treating her with such kindness and care. We are incredibly grateful to Dr. Greenfield and will be entrusting him with the routine oral care of our other dog. I strongly recommend that all pet owners consider doing the same. Just as people have dentists, our pets should too.

We feel so fortunate and blessed that Dr Briggs and Your Pet Dentist are here in Nashville. Our vet, who we really like, was unable to fully extract our dogs rotten tooth. She sent us to Dr Briggs who was so caring and concerned for our dog. She explained that most vets do not have the full set of tools sometimes needed for dog dental surgery. Fortunately she did! Each person who we came in touch with at this vet practice was super nice, personable, and caring. We highly recommend them.

Dr. Briggs and all of the techs/front desk staff were incredibly kind and helpful. They got my cat’s dental procedure schedule quickly despite my limited availability. My cat is older and has a heart murmur, so I felt much more comfortable having an anesthesiologist available for anesthesia planning and virtual monitoring. Highly recommend this clinic, they took great care of my pet!

Thanks to Dr Greenfield for helping my dog Watson. I had taken him to his regular vet and they would pull a few teeth but didn’t address the underlying cause. Dr Greenfield pulled all the teeth affected and had a solution to the cause. Put him on a maintenance plane and should not have to have anymore teeth pulled. He was in pain but now he’s happier than I’ve seen him in a real long time. It was expensive but well worth every penny. It’s like people you don’t go to your regular doctor when you need a dentist. Thanks to them all.
