How to Save Money at Harding Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My dog Reyna and I have had a great experience with Harding Animal Hospital. Dr. Ladd discovered a CCL tear that our previous vet missed and was able to get her scheduled for surgery very quickly. They also have a great surgical team that communicates through every step of the process. I felt very comfortable leaving Reyna in their care and will do so in the future and am grateful that my dog is on the road to recovery.

Every doctor I’ve seen here has been amazing. My dog has been a patient here for 3 years and we’ve had nothing but great experiences. The front desk staff are all so kind and helpful. My 7 year old Shih tzu recently started having back issues. The doctors here are so thorough, explaining all options and making sure I know what to look out for. Cannot recommend them enough!

Words cannot describe how grateful I am to have found Harding Animal Hospital! They came recommended via a Facebook group and being new to town, it was important for my fur baby and I to find the perfect forever Veterinarian. That being said, Dr. Bonavita and team highly exceeded those expectations! From the moment I called Harding Animal Hospital to schedule an appointment in a panic because of a suspected UTI, Bonnie the receptionist was so kind and accommodating. She got us an appointment same day without a problem. Once we got to the clinic, the staff was super friendly, Abby the assistant was great and explained all the tests they’d perform to get a diagnosis. After that Dr.Bonavita came in to talk to us and explain in detail what the X-rays and bacteria showed via the labs. I felt so comfortable being there throughout the whole process and felt like they took care of my pup as if he were their own. Dr. Bonavita even texted me a few days later to ask how my dog was feeling which speaks volumes and was so kind! I can’t say enough about this establishment. I felt I needed to write this review as they go above and beyond and truly deserve more than just 5 stars! Thank you Harding Animal Hospital!

Dr Bonavita is the sweetest and most caring Vet that I've ever experienced in my 14 years of being a dog owner. The entire staff is fantastic and they make it so comfortable when visiting. My poor Bella was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (bone cancer) and while this was the toughest day I've ever had, Dr B couldn't have been more comforting and supportive in finding the best care for Bella. The entire team is conservative in their approach and you never feel as if you're being talked into meds, routines, unwanted or needed care for your pet. It's refreshing. Would never take Bella of any future pet to anyone but Harding Animal House. Thank you all.

We’ve been coming to Harding for 7 months now and we absolutely love them. Dr. B is the best and did a flawless job on my girls spay and answered all of my questions. I was a nervous wreck since I’ve heard of things going wrong with giant breed spays/ neuters. They kept me updated the whole time and checked in on her after. We also came in for an emergency a few days ago after my girl ate a bunch of salt and Dr. Ladd and the staff took such good care of her. Love love them and so happy we found them.
