How to Save Money at Elm Hill Veterinary Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Cooper is heading back and he is excited! Wow! This veterinary clinic is easy in, easy on the pet (Cooper) and very reasonable. Such a nice feeling knowing that I can be with Cooper while he gets his shots. I was able to be with my children when they received their shots. Brought Cooper back for a check up and to get his heart worm and flea and tick medicine. He got his nails clipped without any problems. Ears, heart and teeth checked. Cooper has picked up a couple of pounds so we’ll watch that.

They accommodated me with a same day appointment last minute for vaccinations for BOTH my cats, everyone I worked with was so kind and helpful. Wonderful service, I’m new to town and they will definitely be my new regular vet!

Was really looking forward to meeting Dr. King but he was on vacation. Relief veterinarian was absolutely amazing but the staff-- Completely have no idea what they're doing... Not a single one knows how to draw blood from a cat. None of them know how to hold a pet professionally in a vet practice during an exam. They seem very uncomfortable and unconfident which definitely makes you nervous as a pet parent to see them attempt to handle your pet awkwardly. Staff actually let a large senior dog leap/fall off the exam table and it can be heard in the lobby when she fell. Heart murmur patient too..The staff member let it happen previously with another pet patient as well. They all seem afraid of holding animals.. I love the open layout of this veterinary practice so I know exactly what's going on with my pet and I love that I am actually present and involved in their care. Rather than my pets taken to a back room out of sight; leaving me to wait anxiously. You can hear staff asking what to do with a biting bulldog and how to wash it properly. How long to blow-dry it. Asking how to use an autoclave without burning surgical tools. Not keeping up with maintenance of their diagnostic equipment. Their microscope wasn't functioning properly due to that. They just seem very inexperienced and uneducated. I also have some fears regarding their sterilization process of surgical instruments as a staff member came and asked why the surgical packs were burned and no one knew why.... The burning can be a result of low water in the autoclave or a pressure leak...which can lead to a very BIG boom...I used to be a vet tech a long, long time ago...I actually had to call them back after I got home and inform them because I was THAT worried their autoclave would implode and people/pets would get hurt... ) I had to cancel my future appointments. I was really looking forward to working with Dr King but unfortunately his staff are not qualified. I don't feel like my pets will be safe in their care. It's super important to have a practice that can function while your away on vacation. I even asked if the staff were new, I'm talking like 5-6 girls who had no idea what to do or when to step in to help the relief vet. I had to step in and properly hold for simple examination. There are so many positive reviews - it feels like Dr King is basically doing everything on his own and the staff are just...there? I didn't get charged for the appointment but extremely disappointed in their services.. I even have my cats trained to have blood taken peacefully. Both leg and jug. Absolute perfect cats to work on when taking blood and not a single person knows how to take blood on a cat or even attempted...just said they didn't know how. If more experienced techs and assistants were hired I would love to bring my 3 pets back there and meet Dr King. Relief veterinarian was extremely professional and kind. You can tell she was desperate for actual help from a team who knew what they were doing...Absolutely loved working with her but felt extremely bad because of the inexperienced staff. I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt- maybe all 5-6 staff members are new? Hoping Dr King will address these concerns and I can come back to experienced staff and meet the veterinarian I heard such positive feedback about. Not sure how else to reach him other than by review
