How to Save Money at Southwind Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My first visit and I was very impressed with everything, from the front desk to the exam room. The office was very clean and everyone was very friendly. Rachel at the front desk was so helpful and friendly. I am sure my Ruby Kate will be well taken care of for many years to come. She loved the treats in the exam room.

Southwind by far is the best Healthcare provider in terms of any pets encountered including my three shih tzu babies Bella, Bently, and Blaire. I've taken my fur babies here since they were 6weeks old which their ages now are 4, 3, 2. They run several different types of test to assure the pets are in within great health standards that is. Dr.Wrights who is the Doctor/Veterinarian is compassionate, kind, and accurate. She provides great feedback on test results breaking it down in dumbest time, all to be sure you understand your pet's medical condition. The quality of service that's provided is an unlisted reward because at Southwind Animal Hospital 🏥, the staff goes above and beyond. In the defense of this animal health care organization, my pets have undergone procedures and the process as well as the procedure exceeded when we look at the quality of services provided by animal health care professionals down to the patient, animals to be exact. So, if you're searing high and low for quality, kindness, and the best health for your fur babies, this is your ✋️ stop. They will honor your pet, all the reason why you should become part of the Southwind Animal Hospital organization. At Southwind Animal Hospital, the staff continue to improve their services through actions of quality as I mentioned earlier on and effective communications to help one fur parent at a time to throughly understand one's pet condition. You made the right choice.

If I could give this animal hospital 0 stars I would. This was our first visit and we put our trust in the wrong hands. Today was a very difficult day today as my family and I lost our fur baby. This animal hospital was absolutely no help. My husband and I called this hospital prior to arrival with them knowing the urgency of our situation. We arrived full speed and the act of urgency was not recieved from them. Lots of questions and no actions as our fur baby fought for her life and gasped for air multiple times. Then finally the doctor decided to take our fur baby in the back for oxygen to help her breathe and shortly after she comes back to tell us our fur baby passed away. During the long period of time we were there all the doctor did was check our fur baby's temperature and gums, no exams. Nothing! So after getting the arrangements together and saying our last words to our fur baby, my husband and I was asked to leave. As we are leaving out we were stopped by the front desk to pay $157.30. I asked the front desk lady what was the $157.30 for and she said the amount was for exams. So I then asked what exams were done and what were the results, she walks off and comes back with DVM Lynn Worley who was very rude and loud talking with a horrible attitude when I asked her what did the exams consist of. During a time like this no one should get treated this way. If you're having a emergency situation I would not trust these individuals with your fur baby. They didn't try or help save our fur baby but instead was all about money. I'd hate for anyone to experience this horrific moment as myself and my husband had to experience with this animal hospital.

50 years ago I moved to Memphis with a dog, and I needed a Vet. Two guys straight out of Vet school were opening a practice near my apartment, so I tried them. Those two guys are gone, the location has moved 3 times, the name changed, and the staff has evolved. But, 5 dogs later, I still go there. That pretty much says it all.

Dr. Amy Cooper is very competent & caring! In fact everyone there has always been friendly, professional, compassionate, and top notch! I drive an hour for my pets to be treated there and I'm as picky about my pets' healthcare as I am my own.
