How to Save Money at PetVax Complete Care Centers Germantown

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Took my foster pup here for his vaccines. Even though MAS didn't call ahead, they were able to help us quickly so we were in and out in under 20 minutes!

The receptionist by the name Katie was extremely imprudent. She lacked compassion while attempting to check me out on 08/09/2024 my appointment was set for 10:30 I was almost immediately taken to the exam room which was great. I was told I could leave around 10:40. Upon going to the counter for check-out I was attempting to use the care credit that they offer at PetVax for medical purposes. My name is on file as a listed owner for my family dog that was being seen but not the care credit card itself. To add insult to misery she questioned me on wether or not my name was my name being that I don’t have a traditional masculine name she the asked for ID; weird. I am a member of the trans community and have been for some time now my features are of course masculine but that does not give her any jurisdiction to judge me solely based on my exterior. I provide her with ID as well as the card number and all the information needed from CareCredit directly for a smooth checkout. This was literally almost a hour long process because she wanted to call ever 1800 # imaginable just for them to then place a block on the card, due to her own self doubts. This is PetVax not a bank. The entirety of the time I’m on the phone with my mother who is now extremely upset because of the inconvenience it is causing her to have to come from work to the vet just so we can use another form of payment all because of the unfortunate chaos Katie caused. I told her I understood that she was just trying to do her job but I provided her with several proofs of ID from phones numbers , emails, ID’s , socials and address. I felt very belittled and embarrassed to the point where I had little to no emotion left to give. My dog was in the car the whole time after getting her shots which was not at all pleasant for her even with the air running it was 85-90 degrees outside. All in all I will not be returning to this location if any PetVax for this matter for Katie has ruined the experience for me and my beloved animals. She needs to be taught common courtesy and hospitality for she lacks them both immensely.

DO NOT SEND YOUR PETS HERE!! GREEDY AND HEARTLESS!! I had a very heartbreaking and tragic experience with Petvax Germantown. My dog unfortunately needed surgery and sadly she did not make it out of recovery. Already feeling distraught with the fact that my baby had just passed away, we were told that we still owed the entire $2,300 plus additional fees that were added to try to save her life, including CPR. We were charged $150 for them to perform CPR on my dying animal, and it didn't even work. Keep in mind also that the CPR alone cost more than the medications that were given to her to try to revive her, AND NONE OF IT WORKED. So we were left standing there with no pet, and then being gouged for more money, paying a bill for about $3,000 total. Never once did a doctor or manager come to talk to us, they just kept sending in a vet tech to discuss everything. We decided to have her cremated, and asked them if we could pay half now and half later since it was way more now then expected, they said yes but basically my dog would just be kept there waiting to be sent off for cremation till the other half was paid. So pretty much being forced and not wanting to prolong the process of getting her remains, we went ahead and paid the full amount. Was told that I would be kept updated and notified for when she would be sent off and when to expect her back. Was told that it might be roughly a week, it ended up being almost 2 weeks. Never was called. When I finally called them to get an update, all they said was “We don’t know, just some time this week”. Being distraught over losing my baby, at least I could take comfort in that they would be making ink paw prints and clay prints for us to take when we got the ashes back. Nope. What I received was severely disappointing and upsetting. The lack of care really showed. The ink blots looked like they half way put her paw on the paper and then just smeared it. (I will attach photos.) The clay prints were in a bag still completely wet and would literally droop when holding them. Oh, and also one of the prints has blood on it from one of her nails that they didn't even bother to clean off. Real professional. I was also told that I would get some locks of hair to keep as well, NO hair was given back to me. Overall, this whole experience has been completely devastating and nothing that Petvax did helped with that at all. Extremely disappointing. Would NEVER recommend this location. I WANT TO HIGHLY EMPHASIZE THAT ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS YOUR MONEY.

The facility is super clean (very important to me), the staff are extremely helpful, courteous and accommodating. Our new puppy (Neiko) was a little anxious when the doctor and tech came into the room but the tech (I believe his name was Michael, black guy with cute fro) did a phenomenal job. He was able to envelope our Neiko with a calming hug and help him (and me) get thorough his shots and exam. I look forward to going back and am thankful for such great people.

So far they have been a true blessing to my sweet Missy. I started taking her at 7 weeks and they've been nothing but Angels to us! Missy loves the receptionist. They helped me and advise me so I can offer Missy not only my heart but a healthy life.
