How to Save Money at Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I came to Animal Hospital with a very sick pug and no clue what to do. I spent the better part of a week coming and going, trying new remedies until we had no option but to surgically remove an intestinal blockage. During this time, I was routinely thankful for the professionalism of Dr. Howard, Dr. Fancher, and Dr. Pasquinelly, who each had a hand in my boy's recovery. I would also like to extend a sincere thank you to Kelly, who was kind enough, on her lunch break no less, to call me with updates and put my mind at ease. All of the technicians and support staff I saw were so kind and supportive. I'm happy to report my pooch is now on the mend and back to his usual antics. Animal Hospital is, without exception, the premier veterinary clinic in all of Clarksville. These folks work so hard day in and day out for our pets, and I am so deeply grateful that they do. Thank you and God bless, Eamon & Frank

We brought our Bentley in today for a consult for a toe amputation. We have been in Clarksville for 2 years and hadn’t found a vet that just puts at ease….until today. Dr Howard and his staff are some of the kindest that I’ve met in this industry. Now while I’ll still be a wreck tomorrow while he’s having surgery…this is the first time I am at ease knowing we have the best people taking care of him. Thank Dr. Howard ❤️

The staff and Doctors are all incredibly supportive and knowledgeable. They made this past visit very special and ensured that the utmost care and respect was given during our procedure. They jump right in to help and I highly recommend them for all families.

Dr. Hill and the entire staff are absolutely wonderful. We moved to Clarksville in June of 2022 and our Labrador had lar par, so finding a vet in the area who had knowledge of the disease and how dangerous it could be, was VERY challenging. Then I called Animal Hospital. Right away I found out Dr. Hill was familiar with this disease. She provided us a medication to help keep our boy calm and understood we couldn't bring him in for an exam because of the hot weather. When they finally met in November, I was once again blown away by how much care went into having Tank come in for a visit. Dr. Hill and the girls made sure there weren't other animals in the lobby and brought us to the furthest room away from the sound and commotion. Flashforward to December 2023 and we knew it was time to say goodbye. Dr. Hill called me back herself and talked me through the process and the cremation, and would even do a home visit for us. Gratefully, Tank passed prior to the date. Kelly and all of the front desk girls were calm and gentle when speaking to me. The 2 vet techs were careful with his body and allowed me a few moments to say goodbye again. When Dr. Hill spoke to me, she gave me the warmest hug and her words of condolences has helped my grieving. Special thank you to Kelly, and to Michaela who did Tank's paw print. Kelly knew how important Tank's prints were going to be, not only for our memory keepsake but because I want a tattoo of his print. She made sure the Michaela knew and they are perfect. TL;DR - I will forever be grateful that I found Animal Hospital. Even though they only took care of him for over a year, I truly felt they cared about my Tank. They were patient with my anxiety about Tank and understood the precautions we had to take. If we are ever ready for a new baby, I will absolutely 100% be using this clinic.

This is the best place to take your kids. My baby's have never been better taken care of. They see them the know the names and treat them accordingly. We have been to a couple of vets in Clarksville before we found this place. We now refer all our friends with pets here
