How to Save Money at Chattanooga Veterinary Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My cat could not pass urine at 4 am he was in so much pain and distress I rushed him to the emergency 24 hour hospital not to far down the road from CVC. (I will leave a separate review on their business as well) I had them drying off what you're in. They could to buy me a few hours to get him to an actual vet's office considering there was absolutely no way that I could afford the animal hospital prices. I went to immediately to CVC and waited until they opened. I called at 7 am when they opened and ask if they could please see my cat and explained the situation.....I was first told they didn't have the ability to see him for another week unfortunately we only had a matter of hours. After hanging up I had no idea what to do because I knew I didn't have time to run around looking for somewhere to take him and again I couldn't afford the 2-3k the hospital would cost so I just started crying. A couple of minutes went by and I was getting a call back from CVC letting me know that Dr.Brackett said he would see him and to go ahead an bring him in. From start to finish I was kept updated on my cats progress Dr.B even text me one night at 10:30 pm to keep me updated. I picked up my cat after staying there the weekend expecting a 12-1300$ bill all in all it was actually on the lower end of my estimate an was a 3rd of what the hospital would have charged I will forever be thankful to CVC an Dr.Brackett. Lomas is a happy boy !

They took care of our 4 cats for vaccines and fleas and offered an amazing multi pet discount that made it much more affordable. Maybe a week later we brought the cats back for daycare so pest control could treat house. Pest control cancelled on us, but this vet was so helpful that they didn't charge for the 45 minutes our cats had been there. Overall very nice people and our cats seem to like the people too

Only the best for our pets, always! Dr. Amanda helped us say Goodbye to our beloved Lily, a Golden Retriever years ago. She’s been informative and helpful, supportive and encouraging through every stage of our pet’s lives. Now that we regularly rescue dogs and kittens and cats, Dr Amanda and Dr Bracket have supported us and our precious babies whether we fostered them, TNR’d them, or kept them in a forever home. The staff is friendly and informative as well.

We have been taking both our dogs, Milo & Sophie, here for over 3 years. Not only do we trust them with the health of our dogs, but we have boarded the dogs with them and had the dogs groomed there. Dr. Brackett knows our dogs well and he and the staff seem to care about Milo & Sophie almost as much as we do. We also like that they do not push expensive treatments on you and will try less expensive (and less invasive) options first to see if they work. Overall, the costs are very reasonable so we are able to provide high quality care for our dogs without breaking the bank.
