How to Save Money at VCA Palmetto Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

5 stars does not even give this team justice. They are THE best at care and caring. They were genuinely concerned from the moment we arrived to the happy moment we left with our Taco, 3 days and a surgery later. We thought he ingested sand at the beach and he did, but it also included a bottle cap. For an 8 lbs chihuahua that is 13+ y.o., that is a hard pill to swallow, no pun. Taco also has a heart condition, but we decided that surgery was needed. Dr. Berger-Bishop and her team, in fact the entire VCA team was amazing. I was made part of every decision and when weighing the hard choices, I was helped by a caring team of professionals. We are only in Myrtle Beach twice a year, but I am so relieved to know that VCA Palmetto is there!

I can not put into words how much Dr Cecil and all of the staff at VCA Palmetto mean to us. Everyone there goes above and beyond to make our furbaby feel safe and loved. We have had to make numerous trips to VCA in the last 4 years, and every encounter has been positive. My furbaby Mia absolutely loves to go to VCA. All we have to say is "Dr Cecil" or "puppy doctor" and she runs to the truck. That speaks volumes when your furbaby loves to go to the vet. Thank you to everyone at VCA Palmetto. You make a difference, and you are appreciated!

Cannot recommend this office enough. Our Husky, Max, is a difficult dog while at the vet, and we’ve had failed visits at more than one vet in the area in the last year. Dr. Leavis took the time to sit on the ground and get to know Max, within ten minutes he was laying down relaxing, something he’s never even come close to doing at any other vet offices. She and her staff were able to draw blood and clean out his ears, two things that have been non starters prior to coming to VCA. I could go on about how comfortable she made Max, but I think it’s important to mention how much time she took making sure that we were comfortable as well, as vet visits have been just as stressful for us a they have been for Max in the past. If vet visits are something you dread, VCA and Dr. Leavis will change that from the first visit.

We're very pleased with our experiences at VCA Palmetto Animal Hospital. They care for our 2 cats, and are professional, caring, very knowledgeable, and have an exceptionally clean facility. I would highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for expert veterinary care for their animals. Also you can get an appointment without waiting for months

We live out of state and had a crisis and a tough end of life situation we were faced with while out of town. We came to this VCA because we had been in the day before just as they were closing, and we saw a candle they light when pets cross the rainbow bridge, and we remembered their kindness. When it was time to make the decision, we knew this was the place we needed to be. We called ahead, and they had everything ready for us. They gave us plenty of time and allowed her best friend and bonded soul companion to be with us. They treated all of us with such kindness, compassion, and genuine caring. ❤️ We will always be grateful to this clinic, it's staff and the doctor who helped our girl finally be pain-free. They made us a paw print, a nose print, and made us the sweetest little jars of her fur. We feel that had we been anywhere else, the decision would have been far more difficult. We are thankful for the care we received and the sweet way all of us were treated.
