How to Save Money at Lexington Animal Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Thank you Dr. Gilbert and staff for taking such good care of all of our pups! We moved here 3 years ago and Dr. Gilbert was one of the only vets that was still allowing people inside at the time. We are so thankful that she did because she created a life long bond between us and we are so thankful for her kindness and compassion. Dr. Gilbert provided exceptional care to specifically our golden girl Harper. Three years later we found she was feeling unwell and Dr. Gilbert made sure we knew where to go for further care. She kept in constant contact with us and our oncologist. When we were faced with difficult decisions Dr. Gilbert was always supportive and there to listen. We now bring our other two pups to visit and they love seeing Dr. Gilbert and her staff. Thank you for treating our babies like your own! 🐾 Harper, Wimbleton, and Honey

I actually went and hugged this doctor today. The compassion this lady has for our 4 legged children is something you’d only see on TV or read in a book. Because it doesn’t seem to exist anymore, but it definitely does in her clinic. Plus, she takes the time to explain in words that we non medical people can understand about our fur babies. She will even call other veterinary specialists if she needs an another opinion and that to me speaks volumes to the character of this woman “aka” Dollee’s doctor. Thank you! Dr. G!! We love you❤️

Very pricey & not happy with the fact that I give my cat a cup a day in food even though he lost 4lb. The technicians are very friendly. The vet not so much. My mom brought hers there ,so I brought my 1st 1 there. Then she had cancer, then I adopted this one. He was 17lbs,then 19lbs but went up. Then I got him back down to 19lb. She wants him at 11lbs. He's not going to sit in front of the bowl for 15 min. I'm lucky if he's there for 2 minutes. I just don't want to be nagged every visit. Which is almost every month for his arthritis shot. That's expensive to but it helps him so much.

I have been bringing our dogs to Lexington Animal Clinic for nearly 20 years. Dr. Kristina and her staff are always pleasant and managed to be cheerful, even during the worst of the Covid epidemic. Dr, Gilbert examined our 2 large rescue dogs thoroughly and helped us create a treatment plan when one of our pups had a problem. Lady is recovering from her second ear infection. She is being screened for food allergies as this has a direct relationship to ear problems (who knew)! Dr. Kristina has seen us through some very rough times with our past dogs. She is compassionate and helped us make the toughest of decisions for our last two dogs. I would not hesitate to bring my dog or cat to her. Her support staff does a great job handling clients and pets. The entire staff is to be commended for a job well done…even on the hardest days! Thanks for everything Dr. K! Peggy Kubic
