How to Save Money at Creekside Vet Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Crowe is amazing. She was very "present" in her initial office visit with Tavor which we greatly appreciate. We wanted someone local that had a deeper understanding of the doberman breed and we believe we have found a home with Dr. Crowe.

Creekside Vet Clinic has been the best vet practice I've been to. I've only been there for 4 or 5 years, but they've been extremely competent and caring. Dr. Crowe is wonderful with my Doberman. Fortunately, he has only had an upset stomach from a bacteria and minor tooth tartar to date (he is 5), but she always gives him plenty of time and answers my questions. My older dog had more medical problems and Dr. Woodward gave him the most incredible care and would do extra tests if asked and even call me on her day off to check in on how he was doing or if blood test results came in. This is a great practice and has a wonderful staff. They go above and beyond for their patients. Highly recommended.

Took my 6 year old drama-queen beagle, Delilah, to Creekside for the first time this week. She was due for her annual vaccines and exam, and we had moved too far from our previous vet to continue her care there. From the moment we walked in the door we were treated like family. The staff members were all very welcoming and friendly, making my timid little girl feel relaxed. Dr. Crowe came in and explained updates in vaccine protocols and did a thorough exam. Afterward the wonderful staff members were able to trim my pup's nails (nothing short of a miracle!) Normally after vaccines, my Delilah experiences a lot of pain at the injection site, and pouts for three days afterward. I am pleased to say she was a happy, pain-free girl and is not giving me the cold shoulder! I highly recommend Dr. Crowe and Creekside Vet Clinic. They are rock stars! Thank you for such wonderful care. ~Christine & Delilah

Before leaving Creekside, I had been a client for almost five years. I cannot speak highly enough about Dr. Woodward but the vet that runs Creekside Dr. Crowe is a different story entirely. My issue began in February when Diamond, my Chihuahua, started to have accidents. I took her to the vet to find out what the issue was it turns out she had diabetes. The first flare up was when Crowe right away wanted to do the most advanced and expensive bloodwork test. The test and the visit would have been over 300 dollars. Um no. When I told her I couldnt afford it she looked at me dumbfounded and say 'oh well we have options.' I ended up with pre-OP bloodwork, I believe that costs 90. Big difference. Then when the tests came back as diabetes she wrote me a prescription for Humulin/NPH. I was told by the receptionist that she called it in at CVS and would be ready for pickup. Humulin costs 178 a bottle. I was shocked. Talking with others in the medical profession I found out that I could get NPH at walmart for 25 dollars. Did anyone explain that at Creekside? Nope. Then Crowe convinced me that my dog needed to get her teeth cleaned. As she quoted me at 330-660 and offered me a payment plan I felt that I should do it. She said that Diamond wouldnt need any extractions as many of her teeth fell out. How much did the cleaning end up costing? 810 dollars. How many teeth got extracted? 6. Exactly. Then in the beginning of April Diamond accidentally collided with another dog of mine. As it happened on a sunday I took her to the emergency vet. They said that Diamond was a bit sore but would be okay. Her breathing wasn't right that night or the next so I called creekside the following Monday and the vet tech I talked to said to give it a few days to she how she developed. I kept getting scared and called again on Tuesday and reiterated how Diamond wasn't breathing right. A different vet tech who is new and was extremely rude was ridiculous and said she couldnt find Diamond in the system and made me repeat Diamonds symptoms three different times. Then she said could set me up for Friday because that was the earliest appointment. Diamond never made it to Friday. She died on Thursday. I had changed vets on Wednesday the day before she died so she could be seen earlier. Did anyone asked how she was doing? No. When I called on the day she died to pay off the remainder of the bill I owed for her teeth cleaning did anyone ask if she was doing okay? No. When I requested more information be transferred to a new vet did anyone check up on her? No. After five years, Diamond meant nothing to them. I kept saying she wasn't breathing right and no one cared.
