How to Save Money at Charleston Animal Eye Specialists
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
My experience at Charleston Animal Eye Specialists was exceptional, and I highly recommend their services. The appointment booking process was streamlined, with ample availability. Each individual of the staff was extremely courteous and attentive, ensuring that our visit was relaxed and informative. They were especially adept at explaining procedures and answering questions, making us feel valued and respected even for a routine eye exam. The facility itself was notably spacious and meticulously maintained. Most importantly, the veterinary team was exceptionally considerate of our dog’s comfort, avoiding the use of a high, metal table and working at his level. They also showed thoughtful discretion by asking permission before offering him treats. Overall, the level of care provided by Charleston Animal Eye Specialists was outstanding, making it an excellent choice for pet eye care.

I can’t say enough great things about Charleston Animal Eye Specialists. Dr. Visser and her staff are amazing. I have gone to vets my whole life - as a side note - to watch how they interact with the pets is so telling. You can tell how much they care and love genuinely. My little girl had a cherry eye. And it was getting worse (it got worse than pic enclosed). I was so nervous about putting her under etc. They were so kind and understanding. Their professionalism unbelievable. So I made an appt to go down and have the procedure done. I dropped here off in the morning and picked her up the same day. My only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner! My baby is perfect and so much more comfortable. If you are on the fence about a cherry eye - do it. It’s over before you know it and your baby will be back to perfect. For your pet eye care I couldn’t refer any higher than Dr. Visser and staff! They are amazing! I am so sorry I have forgotten the names of her staff - special people. Thank you all again!! Absolutely wonderful experience! The staff, from the front desk to Dr. Visser, is exceptionally warm and welcoming, as well as knowledgeable. The office is very clean without seeming sterile. They provided what I felt to be top tier care for my cat and was reasonably priced. I cannot brag enough on the staff and Dr. Visser with their treatment of pets, as well as the pet parents!

This place is wonderful! The staff are so friendly and welcoming. The place is so clean and neat with tasteful decor. My dog loved going there and getting treats :) They were so sweet and gentle with my old man dog during the exam. I would not hesitate to return here if he ever has eye problems again.

I cannot speak highly enough of this skilled and compassionate practice! My 5 month old rescue kitten from Hallie Hill Animal Sanctuary had to have an enucleation of both eyes due to a birth defect and they were wonderful with both Finn, and myself through the whole process! After the surgery they called often to check on him to be sure he was recovering as he should, and took all the necessary steps to ensure he did. He is a healthy and happy guy now, loving life! Thank you Dr. Vissar, and your caring staff, for taking such good care of Finn.
