How to Save Money at Cainhoy Veterinary Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Cainhoy veterinary hospital has been a real find! My two bichon frise are highly strung and Dr Ingle and her wonderful team showed them such professional care and attention, they were fully at ease and had their shots without any trouble. I love the atmosphere and energy at Cainhoy. They explain everything and answer all my questions. They give my pets time to settle in before their treatments and they enjoy their trips to the vet now. I highly recommend them!

Dr. Ingle is amazing! My furry family and I have been seeing her for many, many years. She’s the best veterinarian I’ve ever had care for my pets, and as a helicopter mom, I went through plenty prior to finding her. She has seen my two dogs for everything from A-Z over the years. She was the only vet to figure out the proper treatment for one’s bad allergies, and that was even after I had seen a specialist who did allergy testing with no resolution. That is what got us hooked. Since then, she’s successfully identified and resolved GI complications, teeth issues (both dogs have had multiples extractions performed by her), knee problems, pain management related to arthritis, home maintenance plan for late stage kidney failure, and beyond. Throughout the years she has remained consistently kind, compassionate, thoughtful and extremely knowledgeable. She keeps herself and her staff updated with continuous learning and training so they always know the best and most up to date care that can be provided. There aren’t enough words to properly do justice in expressing how much appreciation my family has for her. We are forever grateful to have found Dr. Ingle!

Dr. DeFord and Sadie were fantastic with my Rhodesian Ridgeback today! Stella had an ear infection which was treated with gentle hands and good medicine. Sadie was amazing with Stella - making sure she was comfortable with the visit. Dr. DeFord took the time to give me important tips about local insect pests and how to treat bug bites. Both were sensitive to her food restrictions when offering treats. This was our first visit to Cainhoy Veterinary Hospital and we were very happy with the staff and facility. We are grateful they are close by and highly recommend them! 🐾

My cat Gregory was a stray and I was initially nervous to see how he’d react at the vet. Cainhoy made accommodations for him with providing extra time and lots of Churu treats. Dr. DeFord and each vet tech he’s encountered showed Greg gentle care, acknowledging that he’s been a stray for some time. He is completely at ease there and my once nervous stray is a healthy, relaxed boy. They love Gregory and it’s the sweetest thing. Thank you guys! I also recently adopted my puppy Winslow from a rescue. Dr. DeFord conducted a thorough wellness exam and provided a treatment plan to get her back on track. Sadie showed me how to trim Winslow’s nails, which truly helped me! Cainhoy vet employs kind, highly educated techs and veterinarians whose love for animals is evident. Glad I found them ❤️

Cainhoy is a fantastic vet to bring your dogs. The receptionist Alex helped me and many others while I was there by answering questions and being readily available for anything I myself or others there at the time needed. They took care of my below babies!
