How to Save Money at Hendricks Veterinary Hospital LLC

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My Pyrenees had a badly swollen and injured ankle, and I chose Hendricks to see her because my regular vet had gotten ridiculous on pricing. They made her a work in appointment within 24 hours of my call. Our visit was efficient and quick especially considering they were working us in. My dog got x-rays, three different types of medication, her yearly shots, and a heartworm test plus 6 months worth of heartworm medication. I expected to be paying at least triple what they ended up charging me. So not only did I receive wonderful service and care for my pet, I felt it was a more than reasonable price. Needless to say, I won't make the mistake of going anywhere else again.

FILTHY!!! This is my second or third time boarding my dogs with Hendricks. Prior visits we always opted in for a bath prior to pick up, this time we didn’t because they were freshly groomed prior to drop off. Our dogs (3 of them) were boarded for a week while we were on vacation. When I picked them up they were covered in filthy dried urine and wreaked terribly. I was at a loss for words because this is not how I’d left my fur babies to be taken care of. I had to put my fur babies in my car which now wreaks of urine and will have to be cleaned, but now after traveling 10 hours to come back home to pick up my fur babies I am now having to bathe all 3 of them and myself. It was so bad as to I had to bathe one of them outside in the rain before letting them come inside for a second bath. I called the vet once I had calmed down some and told them that I was so bothered by the condition my dogs were in when I picked them up. They were freshly groomed when I dropped them off and I at least expected them to be in somewhat of the same condition I picked them up. There is no telling how long they had to hold their potty breaks and Hendricks Vet should be ashamed to allow me to pick my babies up in that condition. Especially when I paid $390! When I called back the front desk didn’t even apologize, she simply told me to call back Monday.

Dr Crowe has been amazing. We had to make the very difficult decision to put down two of our dogs. He was very patient and respectful and helped us with that. I had to bring in our cat recently and he helped us with her and handled her with patience (and all my questions) and care. And she was a mess! But she's doing much better, 3 days later. I think I found out vet! We've been to 3 since moving here from out of state. Thank you so much!

Dr Jared Miller and all the staff are wonderful. We not only trust our own dogs to their care but also know that rescue dogs receive the same love and standard of care. We would not dream of going anywhere else. Dan and Marja Toth

I like Hendricks as a vet to give my dogs shots. But as for boarding them. That is another story. We boarded our dogs (3 dachshunds) for 5 days. Called them early (because we came home early and wanted to get them asap) in the morning as soon as they opened to find out when they got their baths. (To which we were going to pay for) they said any time after 230 we could pick them up. Got to the vets to pick them up. A lady tried giving my husband the wrong dog on TWO different times. And asked him, "Are you sure that's not your dog." When we finally got our dogs. They were covered in urine and matted, smelling like ammonia. The lady said, "Would you like us to give them a bath?" He was furious. Paid them and left. We had to wash our dogs twice.... to get the smell of ammonia out. This will be the last time we ever board there. I was very dissatisfied and disappointed. How can you charge to take care of pets and them being given back to them in worse shape. Our dogs peed in the house for 4 days after because i feel they had ptsd. Smh DO BETTER HENDRICKS BOARDING.
