How to Save Money at Warwick PetMedic Urgent Care Vet Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I made an emergency appointment for my 6 year old Siamese cat who had a 24 hour bout of aggressive, "attack mode" behavior towards my partners dog and myself. This clinic gave highly recommended to me by a friend and I was beyond impressed with my overall experience. Specifically the knowledge of the staff. Our vet tech, Logan was so intelligent I had thought she was the vet. She handled my cat with the utmost care and concern. Logan and Sydney were extremely thorough with their questions and answers to try to get my kitty all better. You can tell this clinic's staff is very well versed with cats as I find many vets tend to prioritize dogs over cats. I even asked if they were taking permanent patients so my kitty could be a long term patient for his routine check ups! They send me a follow up, check in message the next day which was incredibly thoughtful. I have already recommended this clinic to many of my friends for any pet emergencies. Dr. Rando, the vet answered all of my questions and spent a great deal of time with us. I am truly grateful for my experience!

My usual vet never called me back last night while my dog was having seizures. PetMedic was booked when I first called but they called me back shortly after with a cancellation. Took us right in and put us in a sweetly decorated room with soft, plush blanket on the stable for my dog. They had Hershey kisses, bottled water, tissues and offered to make him a cake. The room decor had the batter operated candles and a noise machine. They really tried their best to make this experience as comfortable as possible. The vet tech was so caring. This was a tough thing to do but I couldn’t have asked for better service. Price was the norm I think. I highly recommend PetMedic.

I couldn’t get into Warwick animal hospital after having all of my dogs go there for over 15 yrs…then Ocean State wasn’t taking any other animals in, West Greenwich couldn’t get me in for 2 weeks but they refered Petmedic in Warwick. They were absolutely amazing! I had trouble making an appointment online(pretty sure it was my phone giving me a problem not their website). They called me the next day within an hour of them opening to help me. We had a 1pm appointment the following day and we were taken right into a room as soon as we arrived. The front desk staff, nurse and vet were all amazing and so nice. They were amazing with Rowen(and he can be a handful)and we finally were able to get his broken nail removed and start him on antibiotics. They even checked up on him the following day and asked if we had any questions. I will definitely go back if any of my dogs have emergencies and really wished they were a regular vet practice.

My cat, James, needed an urgent visit when his regular vet was closed. He had ingested a type of lilly flower and Petmedic did a great job with a thorough exam. They ran blood and urine tests, X-rays, and conversed with poison control. After an hour and a half visit, we were given a clean bill of health and James was given fluids to help flush his system. The next day we got a follow up text to see how Jim was doing. Dr Bonilla and Morgan are knowledgeable and kind. James was a happy cat when he got home. Thank you!

I had the best experience! The staff and front desk were all extremely helpful and compassionate. They were able to see my dog the same day and took very good care of him. They were professional and transparent about prices and the treatment plan. I highly recommend this place!
