How to Save Money at Wickford Veterinary Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My experiences at Wickford Veterinary Clinic have been terrific. Dr. Lorenson is very patient, caring and down-to-earth. She takes the time to listen to me, to explain things and to answer all the questions that I may have. A+++! My cat Fluffie agrees!!

Dr. Saslaw and staff are always so wonderful. We have been going there for about 8 years now and they always get us in quickly when one of my rabbits have an issue. You can tell that they all really care about your pets wellbeing and I always trust their judgement when it comes to my bunnies health.

We were a customer of this vet for a while. Until a point at which it became too far. So we switched a different vet. Our last appt for our dog was rescheduled by the vet several times. The last attempt, we canceled the visit. Once we canceled the visit, they decided they would hold our dogs medical records hostage until we paid a cancellation fee of $59. I find it strange that they can cancel and reschedule our appt several times without issue or compensation. But when we cancel or reschedule we pay a fee. Then to hold the dogs records, for procedures that were already paid for....that's pathetic to be honest. Remember....we didn't owe money for a procedure. They're paid in full at time of service. They held his records hostage and delayed our other vet visit because they wanted to impose a cancellation fee. Apparently they can cancel ad nauseam but if we do there is a monetary penalty. I refuse to do business with them anymore. That'd disgusting and pathetic.

The first few visits, I really loved it there, the doctors are great . When My dog had pancreatitis and she was In terrible pain, I called and emailed for an appointment and nothing! They were going to call me back , nothing! When I finally got a hold of someone, she suggested I go to Ocean State. Then she said I could call in the morning because they usually have emergency visits in the morning. I said, can you just book me now since it’s almost closing time for you? She said, No ! I called in the morning and they had nothing and said to go to Ocean State again. Then, two months later, I get a reply back from the email I sent suggesting I should come in for bloodwork and schedule an ultrasound. I went to another vet …. Very disappointing! It was also disappointing when I did a refill request for pain medicine and it was never approved.

Dr. Lorenson attended a same day house call to put my Lhasa apso down that I had for 15.5 years. She was so compassionate and explained everything from start to finish. I wish I could repay her in some way for making the experience as special as it could be. During a huge Covid surge my entire family was able to say goodbye to our loving Jeter in the comfort of his own home. I can never thank you enough for your compassionate care. You are one special human! The amount of time and thought that went into the presentation of his paw prints and clay print is mind blowing. I’m so happy with everything and have wonderful memories to look back on. I can’t thank you enough.
