How to Save Money at Wolf Rock Animal Health Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I cannot say enough great things about this holistic clinic. Their team is phenomenal! She’s the daughter of Martin Goldstein who wrote the book on animals and healing. We spent a very relaxing two hours with our vet whom Sunny immediately befriended. We discussed all of my concerns for Sunny’s continuing happiness and wellness. The lights were soft, the noise level low with water fountains. A set of complete sanctuary. I cried when they drew blood and was promptly offered tissues. My little girl is so so brave. 💕❤️

My dog, Ursa, benefits greatly from acupuncture and chiropractic adjustments by Dr. Hassinger. This is a very caring place focused on holistic care. We took a walk after Ursa's treatment and she wanted to go back inside again!

There is so much to say about this Veterinarians office. Walking in is so peaceful. You feel so comfortable the whole time at your furry best friends visit. The vet technicians and doctor, Elizabeth Hassinger are incredibly patient, passionate and intelligent. Dr. Hassinger helped out with our 7 year old aussie as he was diagnosed with cancer. We went to many other vets but wolf rock was the only place that had faith in helping him. So far he has turned around since December and acting like his silly self. We can't thank this Veterinarians office enough.

Run don’t walk from this so called holistic It took me like 4 months to get an appointment with her. And Wow what a mistake that was. During the appointment she starts talking about her farm . So I tell her that I feed my chickens soy free corn free feed and she tells me that they don’t even make it , and that she can only afford to feed her animals GMO chicken feed That was the first red flag then she proceeds to get real rude and trys to hurry me up saying that we were already behind on her schedule. Well maybe if she wasn’t so busy bragging about Her GMO farm we would have been on track to talk about my beautiful sweet elderly dog . her attitude was cold cocky and persnickety the whole time I just traveled almost an hour to come see her to make sure I was putting the right supplements in my elderly dogs home made dog food. And her demeanor was cold and catty . I felt like I was being interrogated by a cop. She tells me that my elderly dog needed to be on heartgard medicine and I told her that it made her sick when she was younger and that I didn’t really like the idea of putting her on all of those chemicals again but she insisted that she try it again. So reluctantly, give it to her and she gets sick after taking it and starts to vomit and regurgitate up all her food and got diarrhea. I call the office and am told that dr. Hassinger is out of the office today and she won’t be able to see my dog until like four days later. I call the office the next day and she says she has some medicine called ease digestion. One whole bottle cost 24 dollars for 60 pills online. She charges 25 dollars 20 pills. So I go pick up her overpriced pills. And she still wants my dog to go on yet another chemical heart guard medicine called interceptor. I didn’t want my dog to get sick again so I didn’t buy the medicine. The next day I get this condescending email from dr Hassinger terminating me and my dog from her practice because she didn’t like that I questioned her about the medicine that made my dog sick. I was told by Martha that I would be issued a refund for the heartgard medicine . I was then told by their extremely rude office manager who was verbally abusive that they do not give refunds on medications. This office is extremely unprofessional and a complete waste of time if you are looking for a real holistic doctor do not come here . This is the worst Vet I have ever encountered in my life !!!
