How to Save Money at East York Veterinary Center
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
In looking for a place to board our newly adopted kitty this summer while away on vacation, we also saw the need to get our baby plugged in with a vet as well. East York Vet has an excellent boarding environment, with stipulations on boarding animals requiring proof of vaccinations etc which safeguards everyone's pets. The location itself is so well thought out with clearly great care and concern given to the comfort and excellent care of all animals. The front desk staff are great, as are the technicians and the veterinarians. I think our Snuggles has found a "go to" place! We did go on vacation and boarded our Snuggles for 11 days. The staff were very responsive when I called to check on our baby, at one point even sent me pictures, because the first day she was hiding and not eating or drinking. That is fairly common in a strange environment for many pets. Snuggles bounced back and I believe won the hearts of those caring for her. We were very pleased with how everything went. We already booked our reservation for 2025 to board Snuggles.

Best experience at East York Veterinary Center. All of the staff has been amazing and I know I can trust them. They love your fur-baby like you love them. My cat had cancer and I took her off the streets 17 yrs ago. She passed and Dr. Nelson was so caring, kind and understanding along with the nurse we had, Mike. They both, plus other staff were very thoughtful during this process. I am forever grateful! Now we have 3 new kittens that we rescued and we still have the same kindness. We feel very comfortable there at the facility and the staff make you feel at home. Honestly they go above and beyond for your fur-baby and you. You can tell they all love what they do. I couldn't suggest a better loving and caring place for your fur-baby.

This clinic is so great. Love that they have a little area in the waiting room for cats only. The waiting area is giant which makes things so much better. Each room looks like a little house on the outside. Adorable. The exam rooms are twice as large as the ones weve been I'm previously at other places. The huge list of doctors makes it easy to get in for an appointment at YOUR CONVENIENCE. Our last clinic would make up wait WEEKS. Never had open appointmens set apart for emergencies etc. This veterinary hospital has evening and weekend appointments which we appreciate more then anything. Every doctor that we've seen her has been helpful. Kind, sweet with our babies and so helpful. The only thing I wish this place would do, is RX order approval through third party like Chewy, Alovet etc. I used to work at a vet clinic and I know that it's annoying for the front of house staff, but on the customer end makes things so much easier. Other then that small thing, we are so happy with this place. We look forward to adopting future dogs and cats because we know we have the best vet practice in town behind us when we do. Thank you! You give us the piece of mind needed to own multiple fur butts at once ♡
