How to Save Money at Ark Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Jones is phenomenal. I am extremely picky with my own care and of course my furbabies' care. I view them like my children. I trust Dr. Jones with my babies. She takes the time to love on my dogs, and talks to them sweetly and gently. As the owners, she addresses all of my questions (and I always come with a lot). She never makes me feel rushed and always talks through different options. I am so thankful to have such a compassionate, patient, and loving person to take my furry children to. I truly believe it has helped keep them so healthy.

I have been going to Ark Animal Hospital Wyomissing, PA since 2003. I had 5 daschounds and 3 passed away. I have 2 left. 20 years old and 21 years old. Dr. Jones, Andy and staff are TOTALLY AMAZING❣️ They make you feel like family. They treat your pet as if it was theirs. Very important to me they explain in detail so you understand what going on with your pet. I could never go to another Veterinarian. There pricing is fare. I never thought that it was expensive they aren't. I COULD NEVER GO TO ANOTHER VETERINARIAN. Thank you for all you love and support for animals ❤️. Thanks again. JoAnn Adams

I have been taking my dog for his vaccines and his checkups to Ark since I moved to PA. Professional stuff, pleasant, dedicated, and just up and beyond. My dog had two knee surgeries done in one year. Dr. Jones is an angel and a magical healer. Thank you, Ark Animal Stuff, and thank you, Dr. Jones.

I absolutely would recommend this vet. It's just not an animal hospital. These employees absolutely care about your fur babies and take such great care and attention to each. They will spend as much time with you and explain everything so you understand if there's something you need to do at home. Recently my son had to take his cat to get what we thought were all his teeth removed. Now this is only a 2 year old cat. They said his immune system was attacking his gums. But, we dropped Wassabi off at 8am and they do the dogs first, so his surgery wasn't until 3pm. Here they only had to remove 8 teeth. He came home, up and alert. Even ate some wet food. No more stinky breath. Bad teeth equals stinky breath. Lol. But this vet/hospital which is nice because you see your vet and then you go to your vet for the surgery. You're not sent somewhere else to someone you don't know. I have no idea why dental issues are so much more expensive but to remove 8 teeth, $600.00 !!!! OMG! Needless to say we are now looking into different pet insurances. But unless you do run into something like this or another surgery all the pet insurances we're looking at aren't really worth it. But I'd definitely recommend Ark Animal Hospital to everyone with a fur baby. UPDATE: Went back today to get my Riley 3 year rabies plus all his other shots, 4 I'm total, physical, fecal test plus Bravecto. They were extremely busy. A lot of dogs barking but my fur baby, Riley, was very well behaved. The veterinarian was 45 minutes late. But like I said it was extremely busy. Dr. Mel, can't spell or pronounce his last name, was, of course, very comforting to Riley. For getting 4 shots he was well behaved. They did put a mussle on him just to be safe. When we went to check out my personal home aid took Riley out to the car due to all the other barking dogs. Riley was a little scared. It did take a while to check out. But other than having to wait over 45 minutes past appointment time and long check out everything is still great at this vet office. I love my veterinarian and the people who work there. I would definitely recommend this vet to anyone. UPDATE-- I had to go back to see Dr Mel due to Riley ( Pit Bull/Dashound dog! Yup) due to him licking his front and back legs and paw pads. And he constantly licks ME!! I know, I know, it's a thing they do to show love. But he'll lick me so I won't need a 🚿 shower!! Lol 😂. Anyway once again the staff is so great, Dr Mel gave him a shot for allergies possibly to help with the leg licking and Prozac, yes, your dog can take Prozac. To hopefully help with him licking me. I'm to let him know if these things help or not. Or he could just be OCD, like me!! I just enjoy going to Ark Animal Hospital because they take such great care of my dog and cat but they CARE about how they are feeling and how I'M feeling too. That's the whole reason we all have pets to live us unconditionally and be there no matter what. They rely on us for everything. So I want to take the best care and give Riley the best life he can. And so does this Vet. I can't speak for anyone other than Dr Mel, but I'm sure they are just as great as him! I bless them everyday for what they do for everyone and their furry friends. 🐕🐱UPDATE: We had an emergency with one of our cats, this one is geriatric and they couldn't see her today so we took her and dropped her off to be seen tomorrow. I also needed to have the vet complete the paper for me to get a Lifetime dog license and I took my dog so they could scan his chip so I had that done when we dropped the cat off. We are very weirded about Ember but she is in great hands. Wouldn't take our fur babies anywhere else.
