How to Save Money at York Road Veterinary Hospital Inc.

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have searched and searched for an amazing Vet in the area who is caring, knowledgeable and also considerate of the Pet Parent and their pocketbook. I can say that My Search is Over! Everyone from the staff at the door to the vet technicians All the way to the Veterinarian are so incredible. Jetty has been here twice and has gotten better every time after her visits. Thank You for incredible service ❤️ And I highly recommend

Made an emergency appointment for the same day for my new kitten who was a little under the weather, I’m very satisfied that they could fit me in for the same day I called! My baby boy Gus is now feeling great & they even called to check in and see how he is doing which I appreciate and it shows they really care IMO. Our normal vet is over an hour away and is way more affordable than other vets in the area but after taking my Gus here and paying only $150 for a check-up, dewormer, medication, and stool lab test I was extremely satisfied with the convenience and cost of York Road Vet. The staff is also great too! Thank you all for taking care of us!

Absolutely wonderful. This will be a long post but I would 100% recommend this vets office to anyone and everyone. We had an emergency with one of our dogs. He had a foreign body in the small intestines and needed surgery. We did take him to a well know animal hospital but couldn't afford the treatment. While crying at this other place I start calling everyone I can think of to see if they can do the surgery and at a more reasonable price. (I feel horrible for saying my dogs life has a price) My husband happened to call York rd veterinarian and they didn't just say yes, they also called in staff so they could do it that night! I rushed my dog over to the office immediately while crying my eyes out. They were waiting for me and as soon as I parked the amazing staff was there helping me carry my dog into the office. With tear streaming down my face the vet immediately asked me if I needed a hug (which I really did because I had been all alone all day seaking care for my dog, my mom did meet me at that vets office tho) and tells me she has him and will take the best care of him. I have to tell you I have never been to this vets office before but just from the brief meeting I knew I brought him to the right place!! The vet and staff were beyond wonderful and they saved my dogs life. I can say that if we didn't get him into surgery when we did I don't think he would of made it through the night. I cannot thank the vet and staff enough. They saved my dog!

Very disappointing. The doctor spent very little time in the room and then left abruptly. He never asked if I had any questions or offered much assistance with my puppy with special needs. He flat out said he did not read her paperwork about her health issues before coming into the room. No guidance whatsoever. I haven't had a puppy for almost 20 years. He didn't think to go over the vaccine schedule or even tell me what shots she was being given beforehand. Nonexistent bedside manner. I had to keep asking his lackey questions and then he had to find the doctor again to ask him. Very unpleasant experience. I will NOT be returning. I don't know how anyone could possibly suggest this vet. The office itself was run down, not very clean, and in a bad location.

This is a great facility. The staff is friendly, and the veterinarian care is top-notch. I’ve taken 2 of my dogs here. Since they are very knowledgeable - They do offer a lot, but it doesn’t mean that you have to do it all - use your best judgment.
