How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Years ago this was a great place to bring your pet. It felt more like family everyone knew your name. Dr would come out and say hello. Asst. and front desk great people. I have changed my view I will not give 5 star but 3 is the best I can do for now. They did reach out and I had a very nice conversation with a supervisor who listened to all I had to say, and I listened in return. We came to an understanding and I do appreciate that. Thank you

I’ve been a customer of Banfield for 10+ years. Starting with care of two dogs now one. The former veterinarians;as well as the staff has always shown my dogs and myself great hospitality. However, I have to say since veterinarian Payne joined the team; my dog (Pearl) allergies are under control at least 97%. Dr. Payne is the best thing that ever happened to Banfield. Pearl, suffered with allergies that took off almost all of her hair. For two+ years nothing Banfield former veterinarian prescribed worked! Until dr Payne arrived. He carefully evaluated my dog; prescribing the best medication, ear drops and medicated shampoo for her. It worked!!! Thank you, Dr. Payne you ROCKED! Overall, yes, Pearl still has allergies however she no longer suffers as a result. Dr. Payne helped us get it Pearl back on track. I recommend Banfield hospital in Stroudsburg for all animals. Ask for Dr. Payne. He’ll get your animal, right! Praise Jehovah!

I would like to share my thoughts regarding Banfield. My beautiful precious Yorke passed away on June 1st, 2024. She went through a lot in the month of May. She passed from diabetes, keystones and pancreatitis. This was the diagnosis I received from Eastern Vet Hospital. Banfield was her primary vet for 13 years. I followed everything her primary stated to do. I now regret it! I have not received not one follow-up call from her vet or condolences. I guess vets don't participate in ethics. Banfield focused on the wrong thing that led to surgery and a biopsy. They ignored what was stated to them regarding excess weight loss, thirst and frequent urination. To be told on June 1st that my beloved was a diabetic was heart breaking. Her glucose level was extremely high to point where 3 days of hospitalization was offered to stabilize her. She stopped eating, drinking and started passing bloody clotty liquid. She suffered. Banfield ignored her glucose levels along with concern that verbally stated to them. It is hard to know that she suffered and was tortured for the whole month of May. I will never forgive Banfield for their negligence and hurt that placed upon our family!

They never EVER have available appointments for my pets unless they are like 6 weeks out. I get that they are busy, but i have never had another vet give me repeatedly long turn around times to see them. I used to use them for all 6 of my dogs and cats. But because of their inability to get you scheduled in a timely manner, I have had to go elsewhere. This is not a single incident either. This has been occurring over a few years. The staff is always friendly and helpful and the vets are great too. Just wish I could utilize them.
