How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The staff at Banfield truly are wonderful. Every single employee I interact with are incredibly friendly and they just love and care for my dogs in the best ways. They are very informative whenever questions arise and always offer multiple solutions. The extra care does not go unnoticed!! Special shout out to Nicole - Prime example of someone I know will do everything they can to take care of them.

Dr skiba, Savannah and Tara made it such a great experience recently for us to take our pup to. Tara greeted us right away and got us into a room quickly. Savannah came in and asked if we had any pre questions, for the doctor and she loved Loki immediately. Then when the doctor joined They asked what we preferred being in the room for vaccines or taking him back and doing it themselves. They listened to our questions and concerns that we had with Loki and all around was a great experience!

I recently had to put my dog down. They were very compassionate to my family. They were very gentle with my dog as well. They did everything they could to make a horrible experience more bearable.

I just want to start this off by saying this is not the best place for people with melanin. Been going to this place since I moved. And after my last visit im so done with Banfield, my dog has had ear issues for a while now they’ve only given us ear drops and I was just notified about needing surgery. only after paying for so many visits that equal out to the surgery. Their scam artist and a bunch of Karen’s. And next time somebody tells you they’re only a few minutes away and they get there at 6:02 and you’re sitting there looking like stupid like I didn’t see a white person go in 1 minute prior. Then I don’t know whose kid was behind the desk and you were making your own child scared of Black people because you were raising your voice, Karen. Litter of 16 puppies and y’all seen 14 of them how much money does that bring you to on top of two grown adult dogs that’s been coming to y’all for sometime now. Yea thanks but no thanks

I had to drop my grandpuppy off at the Crafton location. Her appointment was 7:45 and I arrived at 7. When we were at the McKnight location we could always drop her off prior to the appointment time. The gentleman working the desk (Robert) told me I was too early and he wouldn't check me in. He told me to sit down and wait. He started taking the other patients. Another person came out and started to check me in. He stopped her and again said I was too early for my appointment (it was 7:20 at this time) and she took some of the other patients who arrived after me. This was extremely rude and demeaning to make us sit in the corner while everyone else was treated with care and respect. Once all dogs were checked in (those inside the office and outside) it was finally my turn This was after 7:30. Thankfully I had the kind woman who was working with Robert check us in. We are very happy with the care at Banfield, but you might want to rethink having Robert be the face of your practice. If he treated me like that, I'm sure he has treated others just as rudely.
