How to Save Money at The Bridge Clinic Philadelphia

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This is hands down the best clinic I have ever went to and will be the only one I ever take an animal of mine to! Danielle worked with us tooth and nail to make sure our dog got the life saving surgery he needed that day. He would not be alive today if but got her dedication and get it done attitude! Thank you so much for saving our dog and also giving us the bottle nipple as a reminder that dogs can and will try to eat everything! 😂

Don’t hesitate to bring your pet here, the level of care they provide is truly top tier- and unlike other vets they’re not ripping you off. I genuinely wouldn’t have been able to afford my baby’s treatment if it weren’t for the amazing folks at the bridge clinic, and he’s doing really really well! I will always bring him here going forward. My cat was treated at a private for-profit vet before this and I genuinely feel like the treatment he got was better here. My 2 bits of advice for cat parents who are doing surgery day pick up - 1. because of the curbside pick up situation, the hand off can be a bit rushed, make sure you think about all the questions you want to ask BEFORE you go to pick up your pet, you’re not going to think of it all in the moment. Also- prepare for your cat to be frazzled from the sedation. Have a small confined space ready for them at home, don’t wait until after you pick them up to ready that space. (just mistakes I made) 2. I have never met a cat who can wear the standard cones for more than a day- tops. Mine rips them off asap, I ordered the one pictured here on Amazon for $10 and it has been great, he can still jump/go up and down stairs, & eat and drink on his own which he could not do with the standard cone.

My dog Rosie had a medical emergency Monday afternoon. We took her to the hospital and she was diagnosed with open Pyometra. Her uterus was a giant abscess. The hospital wanted $8000 upfront to perform the surgery. Since I only had $1300 in my bank account, they provided $1300 worth of medical care and sent us home without the surgery she needed to live. Several people on social media had mentioned The Bridge Clinic in Philly, and how they have extremely reasonable prices, great surgeons, and trained veterinary staff that treat the patients like their own pets. I called when we got home, and they called back the next morning. They scheduled her first thing the following morning for surgery. The entire process was so easy and they showed so much compassion. They made everything so much easier just by being good humans that understand people don't have $8000 laying around for a rainy day. My girl was discharged the same day, and here we are 24 hours later and it was like nothing was ever wrong with her. Tuesday night I was sitting in a cool bath with her feeding her ice chips trying to keep her fever down and alive long enough to reach the operating table. It's Thursday morning and she's currently camped outside the bedroom door waiting for the cats to come out and play. I have my little girl back. I'm forever grateful for saving Rosie's life. You are all living angels.
