How to Save Money at Mt Airy Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The staff here, Amazing, Veterinarian was so comforting to my fur baby and he felt very relaxed. My baby usually doesn't like too many people. This place is a wonderful place for your pet. Everyone here is GREAT, I WILL ONLY TAKE MY BABY HERE NOWHERE ELSE FROM NOW ON. PHENOMENAL EVERYTHING!!! Follow up: OMG this hospital is the best, I have received follow up calls about my baby and its a great feeling to know they care enough to take time out to follow up on our pets. I cannot say enough about the care your pet will receive. If you do not have an attentive to all needs Veterinarian, please give them a call. You may want to be a patient yourself, they are that good here at Mt Airy Animal Hospital.

We’ve been going here about six years for our pets and the staff here are great. They’re attentive, caring, and all around knowledgeable. The fact that they have weekend hours is also a bonus and an online booking portal because sometimes it’s just easier to do it that way in general. They’ve also been great with my one anxious dog Quint who is scared of dogs, the car… basically everything. Finally- they’re priced reasonably and they will tell you whether or not it’s worth spending the money or how to deal with expensive procedures.

This is a wonderful place, I recently lost my cat and they were so caring and professional. While crying one of the associates offer me some tissue and said sorry for your loss. Thinking of how kind and gentle they were to me makes me teary-eyed all over again. Thanks so much for your kindness.!

The entire staff at Mt. Airy Animal Hospital has been nothing but amazing, every time I have taken both of my cats in for various things. Every employee treated my cats with the love and care they needed. Not only did they handle them with respect and gentleness, while my cats were in an uncomfortable setting, they were courteous discussing the issues, with my emotions in mind. Dr. Lauderdale is a gem. She spoke honestly and said the right things to guide me, in a sensitive situation, to the place I needed to be. Jessica Lane, who is a dear friend of mine, loves every single animal on the planet. On a personal level, I see her take home her dedication to the care of her staff and the clients who come to the hospital. Not only do they truly love the animals, every day, full time, they are so considerate of the sensitivities and vulnerabilities we have, bringing our pets in, when we can not hear our pets side of the situation..being one of the hardest parts of pet care. I feel confident about their analysis and secure about hard decisions I have had to make. The one of 2 cats I still have, is 17 and I thought, the end of her days. She is now thriving again with a simple rx, for months and I am grateful to have extra time with my little fur booboo.

Just generally an unpleasant experience calling and using this office, usually related to the front desk staff, but also I feel like the veterinarian gave us some unnecessary medical advice once. there was also a discrepancy in my dogs rabies vaccination, one paper they gave me said it was good for two years, another paper they gave me said it was good for three years. when I called to ask what was correct, they person who answered the phone just read back what was on the vaccination report and assured me that it was fine. I had to explain again that I had that same report, but the actual paper we received the day that he got the vaccine with the lot number and manufacturer said it was good for two years, not three years and that was why I was concerned. I asked for a callback once they could speak to someone with clinical experience about the actual vaccine he received. No one called me back. I am no longer using the veterinarian
