How to Save Money at Avian & Exotic Philly Vet Medical Surgical Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I can’t say enough positive things about this practice. Everything was awesome. The doctor is so intelligent, and kind. She doesn’t talk at you, she genuinely wants to understand your pet so she knows the best course of action. My mom and I came in with our sulcata tortoise, Barry, for sick visit. We had to drop him off for a procedure, & although we were nervous for the overall procedure, we trusted the people in this office. When we arrived back, he was hanging out with the staff and getting lots of love and attention. If you have an exotic and they’re in need of care, or just a wellness check, Dr. Tyson and her amazing team, especially Madison & Nurse Alexis, get my family’s full recommendation. 🤍🐢

I am so thankful for the team at Avian & Exotic and could not imagine bringing my pet snake anywhere else! When we came in with a host of issues, Dr. Bocchine and Alexis took such good care of us and provided education and resources in a nonjudgmental manner to help me best care for my pet. It's easy to feel shame and guilt when your pet gets sick, and they made sure that I had everything I needed without inducing ay of those negative emotions. Everyone, including the veterinary assistants and client service representatives, were also incredibly supportive and validating during a difficult time for me as a pet owner. I would highly recommend reptile owners receiving veterinary care here!

Dr. Tyson and her staff were amazing when my guinea pig, Splenda, was sick! They showed incredible kindness and professionalism from the start. Dr. Tyson's expertise was clear as she explained the diagnosis and treatment options with compassion. The staff handled Splenda gently and provided constant reassurance. The clinic was clean and welcoming, equipped with everything needed for top-notch care. Thanks to them, Splenda is now healthy and happy. I highly recommend Dr. Tyson to anyone needing veterinary care for their exotic pets. Thank you, Dr. Tyson and team!

Our trusted and loved family vet we travel hours (sometimes weekly!) to reach. We cannot say enough good things about the practice. Dr. Tyson, nurses, and support staff are a deeply caring, compassionate team. Most importantly they are fluffle approved .

Dr Tyson is truly talented. Her knowledge and guidance has never let me or my feathered friend down, I trust her word wholeheartedly. You can see the care and compassion she has for her work when handling your pet. My bird is seen as the individual she is and that's 100% reflected in her care. That same attentiveness and compassion extends to ALL of the vet techs here (even her receptionist!). It's very clear the faith Dr Tyson has in her staff. I feel at ease no matter who is handling my bird from general care to shots. Between doc and her techs, My bird couldn't hate her visits even if she tried. She gets cuddled and scratches from everyone who handles her. She's then sent home with treats and goodies! MOST importantly as a pet owner of any animal, It's worth noting the cost of care. This isn't a place just trying to make bank off of people who love their animals. This practice makes thorough quality care you can trust something affordable for the benefit of both pet-parent and pet. We feel invested in both Doc and her staff as people. Great vet office!
