How to Save Money at North Winds Veterinary Services
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We had to put our best friend down. 🐾 We called North Winds and they got us in the same day. They didn't require any prior vet records or ask any questions. Everyone was so kind and caring and compassionate. They just visually made sure it was time for her to go and simply asked us why we made the decision. The process was quick and convenient. They took good care of all of us.

I don’t know where the missed communication as to an appointment that was made for my dog but I got a very rude phone call that I missed his appointment for surgery and that I was being put down as a no show and than HAD to make a deposit to schedule a new appointment. Nothing on my paperwork I got from them show it nor in my car or my purse for the appointment for him. I remember saying wait to see if I could find records of him having 🩸work so I didn’t have to have more done nor pay out more money I will never use this place again other vets are kind enough to send reminders

I honestly cannot say enough great things about this place! I was having an absolute breakdown when calling every single veterinary office in the surrounding area, only to get pushed further and further away. My normal vets office couldn’t see their active patient for over a month, all emergency vets say 15-24 hour wait time (in the waiting room) and I was ready to lose it, until one vet said “have you called North Winds?” I figured why not? I’ve called every other. I googled the number and called right away. The phone was answered immediately, where I explained the situation and she said “one moment while I talk to the doctor about this!” And got me in, in THIRTY minutes. I brought my pup right in, and they kept him for the day, as he had to be put under for the procedure. They called me within a couple hours and said everything went great and arranged for me to come pick him up. When I got there to pay the bill I was shocked at how affordable it was!!! Best place ever! Before I left, I made sure to switch to them as primary care! 100 stars! Thank you so much for taking care of my baby Mordecai!

We recently moved to the area and needed to establish as a new patient. The appointment was pretty quick and the doctor was wonderful. The facility is so very clean.

The person who answered the phone was awful. Completely condescending, unapologetic, and insincere. Should probably take lessons on Customer Service, because she doesn't know the first thing about it. I called to confirm my dogs spay appointment and was told the spay appointment was scheduled in May but I missed it. Told her that no I specifically scheduled it for June and that perhaps it was scheduled wrong in the system. Asked why I wasn't given a call - I was told it wasn't their job to remind customers of their appointment. Tried to reschedule but they demanded a deposit since I was a no call no show. Had I truly been a no call no show I would have understood, but this was them obviously scheduling it for May instead of June by accident. Having worked in a Vet Hospital myself, it's easy enough to do. Continued to accuse me of being wrong and was adamant that they scheduled it correctly in the system, instead of offering to waive the deposit due to this being a misunderstanding. I am disappointed that I will have to look for a new veterinarian. But I guess they don't care about losing business given all the 5 star reviews they have.
