How to Save Money at Fishing Creek Veterinary Center
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We are so thankful of Dr. “B” and his staff. We had an emergency with little Lizzy, our little kitten. The only one that lived out of 4. We found Lizzy’s mother is a carrier of a deadly disease. Dr. B treated and tested her for three days, but she did not make it. Dr. B and his staff were very compassionate, caring and kind to us. They gave us all the time we needed to grieve for our little Lizzy .We are very thankful we found Dr. B.

While on vacation on Bald Eagle Mountain, our senior dog took a turn for the worse and we needed to say goodbye sooner than we thought we'd need to. His health deteriorated very quickly and it was made very clear that we needed to find a vet to help us immediately. Not being from the area, and never having been here before, we had no idea who to call. We googled local vets and after being turned away by two other clinics, Dr. Butia's office staff said to bring him in immediately for the doctor to see. Dr. Butia spoke with our own personal vet back home and did an exam on our dog and confirmed what we already knew, that it was time to say goodbye. Dr. Butia and his staff treated us gently and with such compassion. They let us have as much time as we needed with our boy before and after the procedure. It was one of the hardest things our family has had to go through, and they offered us so much care and sympathy. We are forever grateful for their help in aiding our boy across the rainbow bridge. I would highly recommend their office for any and all animal care needs.

My dog has the typical small-dog periodontal disease and is 12 years old, so I took him here to have his teeth pulled. We've had his teeth cleaned and pulled previously at another vet, and cleaning them ourselves just seemed to slow the tooth decay so we were resigned to having all of his teeth pulled. I was quoted a "around 600$" for the procedure, and I figured 600$ was fair given inflation given it cost about 300$ last time. I was an idiot for trusting the vet and not getting it in writing. When I picked him up I was charged 1173$, almost twice as much as I was quoted, because they "needed to remove more teeth than they thought". So either they lied to me about the quoted amount and used that as a justification, or ignored me when I told them ALL his teeth would need to be removed. They didn't actually even remove all his teeth, they left 5. They said they left 4, which has me questioning if they actually even removed 19 teeth like they said they did and charged me for. I've attached the bill, so as you can see it was well over 600$ before they even got to the actual "tooth extraction" part. Anyway, don't trust this vet, and if you have no choice get everything in writing ahead of time. Dr Butia is a liar and a scammer, and his response ignores my actual complaint, that they charged twice as much as they said they would and that I TOLD them from the outset all teeth would need to be removed, yet they are acting like they only found that out after the surgery started.
