How to Save Money at Good Hope Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Good Hope Animal Hospital is a fantastic place to bring our dog. Staff is very friendly, helpful and understanding. Ours doesn't do well with other dogs around and they've always made arrangements so that we can either enter through a different door or plan accordingly so that he can go straight into a room when we arrive. Dr. Davie is wonderful, attentive and helpful.

The Doctor's and staff are very detail oriented and listened to all my concerns with my 8 year old Chihuahua, Buddy! They worked efficiently, are knowledgeable about all things, no matter how small. Very courteous, professional and made us feel comfortable with meeting them! I am Blessed to have found such a friendly Veterinary practice, that cared and doesn't break your pockets! Thank you all at Good Hope for taking great care of Buddy and me!

i am honestly so sick and tired of this place taking my money any chance they get. i have brought two vaccinated dogs to them and they refused to continue on their vaccines. instead they would rather redo ALL of the shots my dogs already got from the breeders vet. i ALWAYS have proof of vaccinations too, yet they want my money and to redo them anyway. they also always have something to say to me about my dogs not being fixed. stop pushing this on your customers its gross and annoying. all you guys care about is getting your silly dumb paycheck. not to mention over doing my puppies vaccines and giving him 4 in one day. he had the WORST reaction, and then the medicine they told me to give him was the incorrect dosage so he never ended up getting better

If I could give more stars, I would! Good Hope Animal Hospital has been nothing but perfect. Dr. Davey and the team are phenomenal, and give my dog so much love every time. They answer every question I have, they’re honest, and provide seamless service. Since putting our family dog down in 2016 to caring for my dog today, they have shown ongoing compassion again and again.

If I could have given a negative 10 I would have. They have been my vet since 2010. They sold to a corporation & doubled rates. My dog has been treated there many times for stomach problems that take meds, shots & special diet to get well. Sunday she got sick & spit up Monday. I called at 9am when they opened & was told they couldn’t see her until Tues & I made appointment. They told be to cancel if she doesn’t throw up any more, so I did. They have treated her for over 6 years with this stomach problem. They NEVER TOLD ME TO CANCEL KNOWING HER HISTORY!! Today Thursday she threw up all kibble she had ate & was lethargic, I called and was told they couldn’t see her until Tuesday 5 days later!!! I explained how they had me cancel earlier appointment & they know how sick she gets & shes 13 years old. Then she said I can talk to the vets & see if as an emergency they can fit her in today but the office call will be $122 instead of $65. I said ok, after about 20 minutes she came back on & said they can’t see her & suggest you go to an emergency animal clinic. I did and it cost a lot, but they gave her iv under skin nausea shot with pills for her. They were great & caring UNLIKE THE GOOD HOPE ANimal HOSPITAL I HAD BEEN GOING TO FOR OVER 15 years!!! Do NOT GO to this VET B/C when your dog needs them most they will treat you like you are not a loyal customer & treat your dog like a dog they don’t care if they die because they are too busy to treat them!!
