How to Save Money at Willowdale Veterinary Center
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Dr Pote is very thorough on his exams. He gets us in for emergency appointments same day. He cares deeply for his patients. He handles them lovingly. His prices cant be beat. Top notch and would highly recommend.

Dr. Pote came highly recommended and has never let me down. I would call him something of an old fashion country vet who is pleasant, but focused more on bonding with animals than owners. He doesn’t rely on computers, rather his extensive medical knowledge to care for animals instead. He’s a gift to our region, and I wouldn’t dream of going anywhere else!

We have been taking our Labradoodle to see Dr. Pote for over three years and we have found him to be an excellent veterinarian. He is knowledgeable, kind, gentle, and our "Shadow" loves going to see him for check-ups even though Dr. Pote gives him shots. Of course Dr. Pote has a treat handy for Shadow when he works with him and that might help explain the love. But it also helps explain Dr. Pote's Knowledge of how to care for animals. We look forward to having Dr. Pote care for and "treat" Shadow for many years to come. Oh, Dr. Pote's assistant is great as well.

Not a good vet for cats!! After moving to PA we took our dogs to Dr Pote and he was great with them. He was NOT so great with cats. He didnt handle my cats in a manner I was comfortable with - a bit aggressive and lacking compassion. Was hoping for a peaceful end for my one cat who suddenly fell ill but he screamed out in pain the last few minutes of his life bc of the injection method Dr Pote decided to use. In the 10 cats ive cared for over the years, Ive never witnessed an animal being euthanized in such a brutal way. It scarred me and I wish my cat didnt suffer in her final moments. Husband debating if to keep the dogs at Willowdale, its a small clinic and good for anxious dogs, but the cats will 100% be switching vets.

My wife and I took every pet we have ever had to Dr Pote. He is not only the most dedicated Veterinary Doctor I have ever know, but he truly cares about the well being of the pet, and has gone the extra mile without any concern of any inconvenience to him in any way, shape or form. I recall once where our yellow lab Molly had surgery on her leg by another vet in the area and it became infected. I took her to Dr Pote to look at it for me, and he identified it had become infected. He called the other vet to tell him it needed to be treated, and was told that it would need to wait until the next day. Dr Pote told him "never mind, I will take care of it myself". He immediately operated to clean the infection to save Molly's life, and NEVER held his hand out for payment. He did what he felt needed to be done to save her life without concern of the almighty dollar. Thank God for Dr Pote and kind people like him. He is indeed one-in-a-million and we will never forget his kindness and caring for our beloved pets.
