How to Save Money at Blue Mountain Veterinary Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We were in search of a new vet after some very bad experiences with another vet in the area. We couldn’t be more happy with the team at Blue Mountain Vet. They are a breath of fresh air compared to the service we were used to, and show genuine care for both you and your pets. All three of our animals have now switched over and we feel much safer and at ease with them in their care!

I've taken my two dogs to Blue Mountain Vet Care for the last year and several months (I believe it was pretty directly after they opened their doors). The staff and doctors are all very personable and good with my shelties (both 11 years old). I am pleased with their service and will continue to have my dogs health needs supported by their team.

I have only been here once so far, but I already love it!!!! Dr. Nelson and her staff LISTENED. Just that alone seems so priceless these days. I brought my girl dog here because we went to a few other vets regarding her "accidents" she was having in her sleep. I was given really basic advice like, "limit how much she drinks before bed" or "this is what happens when puppies are spayed too young." No form of relief was given for our dog or for us. This continued for well over a year. We spent so much money on laundry detergent, waterproof mattress pads and blankets, etc. Dr. Nelson performed all of the necessary tests and x-rays to make sure there wasn't something more significant going on first. When she passed all of those, she prescribed her medication to see how it would go. I'm happy to report that she hasn't had any accidents in the past few weeks! Our dog no longer feels ashamed (yes, she did) and I don't have to wash blankets every morning. HOORAY!!!!! Thank you Dr. Nelson and staff! I am a big big fan of this practice and consider Daizy a lifetime fan too.

Wow. I just have nothing but good things to say about this office. My cat was injured and had some infected puncture wounds. I have never brought an animal here but when I called to ask if the could see him they made the time for me. I was seen almost immediately after arriving and was helped by the kindest staff. From the front desk to the vet assistant and the veterinarian. Everyone was kind and really appeared to care about my cat and getting him fixed up. I'm just so thankful to this office for helping my cat and doing so in the most caring way. When I went to pay the bill I was not expecting to see the number I saw. I assumed it would be such a higher bill for being an emergency situation. But it was not and was completely reasonable and broken down for me so I knew exactly what I was paying for. If I could give 100 stars I would! I will 100% be a returning client for any and all future pets! Thank you Blue Mountain Vet you are AMAZING!!!

I came here because it was so close to where I live. I stayed here because the staff makes u feel welcome and my pup loves the Vet. The location is great, lots of parking, the place is new and very clean. Dr Nelson is very good and takes her time explaining things. Definitely recommend this place.
