How to Save Money at Millcreek Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Becoming a dentist opened my eyes to how many doctors of all kinds are less than stellar and I am extremely particular with who I trust with my family's care as a result. We have been seeing Dr. Jenny for years and I have yet to have any reason to even remotely regret trusting her and her team with the health of our animals. I'm convinced that her care gave us significantly more time with our sweet elderly tuxedo cat, Max and that his quality of life was so much better than it would have been without her. The staff here is always so sweet and compassionate no matter how rough a day they're having. We've been coming here for years and have no personal connection to anyone who works here or anything, but it has always felt like seeing long time friends. They clearly love what they do and have always treated us with respect and professionalism and somehow managing to do so while goobering over every animal that comes in as if they were their own. Dr. Jenny herself undoubtedly is constantly managing a certain degree of chaos that comes with animals (but mostly their humans, I suspect) but she somehow is able to act like your pet is the only one there and I know personally what a challenge that is and she puts in the effort to nail it each time. Few doctors question their own thought processes the way she does when managing a complex medical issue and the fact that she truly considers your situation. A doctor that can both explain their rationale and is willing to take the extra time to do this is a doctor that I'm going to trust and as I mentioned at the start, I don't trust most. The moment that truly made her my vet for as long as she will have me was the moment she excitedly brought me back to look at Max's xray, which apparently (sorry doc, I had no idea what I was looking at lol) it showed such a ridiculously good response to the medication in clearing fluid from his lungs associated with his congestive heart failure (if I remember correctly). If a doctor is so openly hyped about a positive result that they bring you to the radiology room to share every minute detail with you because they genuinely need to celebrate your animal as if it was their own, you can be sure that that doctor is going to give you the best they're capable of every time and that they will continue improving their skills because to give anything less would go against who they are as a person. Dr. Jenny is 1000% that doctor and I am so grateful to have found her and her team to help us give our furry goobers the best lives we are capable of providing them. (For the record, the one time our cat had a medical emergency and was rushed in mid-seizure, he was seen to immediately with his well-being clearly being the priority over anything else)

Every worker at MAH was beyond wonderful! Our appointment was at a busier time, yet they still made us feel like a priority. The veterinarian and vet techs were so sweet with my pet and made her feel comfortable during the visit. They were so informative and helpful with everything discussed. I will only schedule appointments with them from here on out. Great visit!

Highly recommend! Our 2 yr old Boston Terrier was diagnosed with a mast cell tumor on his head. After 2 aggressive surgeries we got clean margins. The staff at Millcreek Pet Hospital are amazing, kind and knowledgeable. They saved my pups life.

Took our newly adopted street cat in for his first wellness visit 7-27-23 and was very pleased with the staff and level of care afforded. This was a big day for "Nigel" as he had just come inside our house for the first time yesterday, had his first car ride, his first time in a crate, and a first vet visit, so it was a very hard day for him. However the staff was very kind, and he seemed to do well. He was stressed when he got home but I know he is feeling better after the care he received yesterday. Thank you MAH.

Dr Hummel, Brianna at the front desk and every other person I interacted with here was awesome! When elderly loved ones have sick pets they can no longer care for, very hard decisions need to be made. Dr Hummel and her staff were so kind, understanding and incredibly helpful for my family during this ugly time. I wish I lived in Erie so they could be my permanent vet! I will rest easy knowing if I ever need pet care while visiting, Millcreek Animal Hospital will be there for me. THANK YOU ALL AGAIN! 🐱💚🐱
