How to Save Money at Brandywine Valley Veterinary Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The best veterinarian hospital around! We take our Roxy girl here who has Addison’s and she is treated so amazing by the staff, Dr. Cafaro and Dr. Daniel are extremely wonderful doctors! Everybody loves her from the time she walks in when she gets taken back you hear all the nurses in the back saying here’s Roxy, hi Roxy! We can’t say enough good things about the office and staff! The doctors listen and don’t rush you, the office and rooms are so clean. Such a nice environment! I love how everyone is so nice, and you’re treated with the utmost respect! And she loves her car rides to the office! She’s such a happy girl! We can’t thank the doctors, nurses and staff enough with how they take care of us and Roxy!

We highly recommend this practice! We recently moved to the area and needed a local vet for our pets (our dog, Sadie, and our cats, Bob and Joey). Brandywine Valley Vet Hospital is right down the street from our house and they were able to get us in for appointments as soon as the same week when we called! They were super friendly the moment we walked in with our fur babies and took such great care of all of our pets. Dr. Cafaro and Dr. Rockwell explained everything in great detail to us during both visits and provided us with additional resources for as needed purposes. They also provided us with a lot of positive feedback making us feel like we were doing the right things for our pets. We can’t say enough good things about this practice so far and we look forward to using this practice for many years to come!

Both of my dogs have been patients of Dr. Cafaro and Dr. Daniel. The entire veterinary staff is incredibly knowledgeable and kind from the moment we walked in until the moment we left. The hospital recently introduced grooming to their list of services and as to be expected they did NOT disappoint. My golden retriever is 2 years old and had never been groomed before. The groomer was so gentle and sweet with my boy, I was running a little late picking him up and she even read to him! I cannot say enough nice things about this entire staff. Their genuine love and care for animals truly shines through.

About three weeks ago now I found a kitten under a dumpster and immediately decided I had to keep him- my regular vet was booked up to a month, but as I have other pets I couldn’t risk him potentially being a hazard- BVVH was the vet I settled on taking him to, and they were so good I chose to switch from my old vet (a three minute drive from my house) completely to them (25 minutes from my house). They are cleanly, professional, and very kind. Every single person I met while I was there had a smile and treated us very well (even as I continued to ask probably too many questions as a concerned pet mom) and were very patient. 10/10 would recommend.

The staff is absolutely wonderful. Our cat developed a bad infection and they were able to see us that same day. Dr. Rockwood is very compassionate and took the time to explain the treatment options, prognosis, and cost before any decisions were made. They were not pushy at all like many other vets are and pricing was very reasonable.
