How to Save Money at Chambersburg Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I went here because my original vet was booked. I got my cat an appointment within an hour. No wait when I got there. Staff was excellent. Made a diagnosis without having to run a bunch of test so the bill was affordable. My cat was feeling better within a few hours. I will definitely go to this place again if needed in the future.

Chambersburg Animal Hospital RUINED my cats chances for survival and ultimately lead to his death. We brought our cat in because he was having trouble with his sinus. They put him on a 3 week round of antibiotics, which did not work. The second visit they gave him a shot, 3 weeks later he continued to deteriorate, on the third visit they wanted to put him on the same treatment as the first week and dismissed our suggestion for a foreign object lodged in his sinus and refused to do X-rays. At that point we got a second opinion from a different clinic who was shocked to find out they never took X-rays. Turns out my cat had cancer growing in his sinus but it was too far along and he was too weak to truly do anything about. We truest Chambersburg Animal Hospital and they let us down. For over 3 months my cat suffered in pain because Chambersburg Animal Hospital’s neglect and arrogance. Pictured below is his X-ray the Other clinic did and circled is the tumor pushing against his skull to the point it was blinding him in his left eye.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about CAH. I have been on quite a journey with our felines this past year. I took in a very young, pregnant cat last year (4/22) and fostered the mama and kittens. Turns outs they all tested positive for FLV. Mama caught it, but the babies were born with it - which has a much more dire prognosis. Two did end up being adopted and we kept the other two with the mother cat. We lost the first one (one of our sisters, Juniper) in January. It was a shock because she had no symptoms until she did and then it was too late. The Vet and staff were incredibly supportive and caring. Then, the two who were adopted had to be euthanized within the next month. There was one left. CAH did a CBC and has always been very good about balancing honesty with compassion. Ivy (the last kitten) is on a regimen of Iron and Prednisone to try and get her red blood cells to regenerate and it’s working so far. Dr. Pawlus and Cassidy (the Vet Tech) are very happy with her results. She’s a fighter. I don’t know how long we will have her, but I trust CAH completely with her care and my heart.

I am very pleased with the care of our Rottweiler Max! He was seen within one day, and treated very well. Both the vet tech and veterinary doctor were friendly and knowledgeable of informing of his care . Follow up appointment is scheduled and didn’t cost an arm and a leg

Great people, knowledable, good listening skills but overpriced for long time customers. Wish to ask for a seniors discount as we are living on social security. My dog needs dental work and I haven't had it for myself as I have no dental insurance. Please ask the owner for discounts for the elderly. Please.
