How to Save Money at Chadds Ford Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I was impressed with the kindness, efficiency, and service of Chadds Ford Animal Hospital. I love that it is privately owned (I have had horrific experiences at clinics owned by corporations). I highly recommend this practice.

We have 2 toy rat terriers and needed a place to board them for the weekend. They had only been away from us once in 6 years. Also, the little one does not like strangers. I was so nervous about leaving them an entire weekend. Courtney worked with me as if I was her best friend. She was very patient with me and answered all my questions. Ashley took us on a tour of the place prior to our dogs staying. I could feel that the people working there genuinely love animals. I know our dogs were not a walk in the park but they handled them like Champs! Chaddsford Animal Hospital is my first choice for our fur babies. What a relief to know that should we need to board our dogs again, we have the perfect place for them to stay. Thank you to the doctor and staff, as I am sure our dogs, Mike&Ike were a handful.

Chadds Ford Animal Hospital is a simple name for such an amazing “vet”. As many animal lovers know, finding a vet is an extremely difficult process - and you never know what you’re going to get until you go through the process yourself. Before I dive in, I'll just say it now: THIS is the place to go for a great VET, for BOARDING, emergencies, and PRICE! Luckily for me where I adopted my dog Snook (pictured and adopted from Providence Animals Shelter) CFAH came as a recommended vet. Several of my friends also take their pets there, the reviews looked good, and when I called to inquire about pricing I was astounded at how cheap the services were (which scares you a bit, but not this place). I have to say: the physical, treatment, staff, boarding, and scheduling are all TOP NOTCH at Chadds Ford Animal Hospital. When I went in to get my little puppy's physical after only having her adopted for two weeks the doctors and nurses were AMAZING - answering all my questions, and explaining everything that they were doing or needed to do. I had lived with animals for about a decade but never had my own dog, so this was new ground for me. They were patient and awesome. She had a case of “Kennel Cough” and “ear mites” which I was given medication for that went away in no time. The staff just couldn’t have been nicer. Like I said the nurses and doctors were great, but so is reception. They really help you when it comes to choosing medication too. I was going to get a years worth of two different kinds, but it was better to just get 6 months worth and you get 2 months free. Since I’ll be back in for more shots before 8 months, I can re-up easily again. Lastly they board animals, and when I saw that I was extremely impressed. They charge so little I was dubious a bit, but my dog came out looking happy, healthy, and well taken care of. With the budget I had ready I was able to upgrade her to her own room, special tempurpedic pillow, and two extra private play sessions. If I recall correctly for around $35 or $36/day - that’s crazy! Luckily I haven’t had a chance to review their emergency services section of what they offer, but I’m sure if I ever do I’ll be ok and so will my pup (being able to calm down a dog/cat owner is important!). In the end, I am very happy I chose Chadds Ford Animal Hospital as my vet. I’ll never change, and I will ALWAYS board with them too. Attached you’ll find a great pic of very healthy beagle mix, relaxing in the morning next to her great-grandmother. =) Hope this helps you in your decision to pick a vet - it is so difficult!
