How to Save Money at North Saucon Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This is my 15 y/o dog’s regular vet since 2019. We followed Dr. Betz from a previous office. She’s a healthy 15 y/o because I take pride in her health. Dr. Betz recognizes my passion & dedication to do everything WE can. I admire her for making my visits feel more like a team discussion. She listens to every detail. I recently transferred my 2 cats that have completely different personalities around strangers, not one hiss from either of them during their routine vaccine visit. The waiting room is always peaceful, and the front desk is calm, friendly & approachable. (Thank you Doug & Brooke at the front for your patience and for following up with any question, returned call, or email response in a timely manner) This entire office deserves the same big hug, not just Dr. Betz. I believe the hours were recently extended & a new vet was added to their team to help more pawrents receive medical care for their fur-babies without waiting for weeks like other vet offices. Come prepared, ask your questions, listen to your vet, understand that this staff is here to help, and don’t be afraid to ask more questions.

I've been a loyal customer of North Saucon Animal Hospital for over 20 years, and I must say that the staff has always been fantastic. However, the recent staff members have been absolutely phenomenal. Brooke, who recently left to pursue another opportunity, was incredibly knowledgeable, sweet, and inviting. On the other hand, Doug, who works at the front desk, provides excellent customer service and takes the time to greet your pet, ensuring a seamless visit. They've hired a new front desk person to replace Brooke, and although I can't remember her name at the moment, she brings experience from her former employer and has already proven to be a great asset to the team. She goes above and beyond, assisting with caring for your pet while you're paying or even bringing food to your car. Dr. Strause, Dr. Young, and their assistants have been my dog's primary doctors for over a year now, with weekly visits. They have taken exceptional care of my 13-year-old French Bulldog, who has cancer, as well as my senior Corgi. Over time, I've built a strong rapport with the entire staff, and I can't praise them enough. Diane, the office manager, has been there forever and is friendly, knowledgeable, and not intimidating. Additionally, don't be surprised if you find the owner on-site; he is hands-on and maintains a clean, professional establishment. For those new to the animal hospital, I suggest having patience, as they are training new staff to expand their hours, potentially reopening on Saturdays again. Overall, I'm grateful to the staff at North Saucon Animal Hospital for taking such excellent care of my fur babies!

We love North Saucon Animal Hospital and the staff. Polite, kind and efficient. Our dog Zoe is 13 years young. They never reccomend unnecessary treatment. Zoe has been to another vet in the past and we recently switched. At the other vet she froze and was uncomfortable. At North Saucon she skips and frolics. Wagging tail always a good sign. I highly recommend their services.
