How to Save Money at Beaver Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

In June of 2019 my Boxer had a puppy. I needed a vet asap to help me with a time-sensitive procedure and to help me with the proper care of a puppy and nursing mom, something I had zero experience with. I called a number of vets around the area and every one was seemingly too busy to care about my concerns. I was able to get an emergency appointment with Beaver Animal Clinic same day and my concerns were taken care of. Since that point, all three of my Boxers have been seeing the amazing staff at this animal clinic. They have treated every one of my concerns from ear infections to mass removals and I wouldn't go anywhere else.

I had the best vet experience I have ever had with my two dogs, Luna and Delphi. My dogs are incredibly anxious. Dr. Steed addressed all of my concerns and made sure my dogs were comfortable with her before examination. Other vet offices in the area take months to get an appointment. I was able to schedule at beaver animal clinic within the week. I was also able to schedule dental surgery quickly. I highly recommend this office!

I really LOVE this place and how well they treat my dog. I used to go somewhere else in Beaver County until they did not listen to me and gave my dog ALL her shots at one time. I had warned them NOT to do that. I left on a trip to Canada the next day with my dog. While on vacation, she reacted negatively to all the shots (like I had told the vet) and she had raw spots all over her back that were bleeding. That other place said they couldn't do anything, and pictures of her scars didn't count and were useless. According to them, the only way they could help was if I brought my dog back to the USA and have her be examined. I was so upset, there's no words to describe it. I decided to call Beaver Animal Clinic, who wasn't my vet at the time. I was crying, explained my dog's situation, and sent them the pictures (they were happy to see what was happening to my dog). Since I was in Canada, they told me right then and there how to help my dog in the interim until I could see them. Remember, we weren't even their clients yet!!! They were appalled that the other vet did not listen to me and would give that many shots at one time. Beaver Animal clinic does not operate like that! So, I changed my vet that day! After my trip, they helped my dog further and she ended up healing. I was so impressed that, even though I wasn't their client yet, they still helped my dog, for free, because they cared. They just cared that much! A few years later, my dog had broken 3 teeth (used to have extreme separation anxiety) and had other dental issues. She needed to be put under anesthesia to remove 3 teeth and other procedures. They kept me updated and all went well. When I went to pay, the bill was lower than the quoted amount (yes, lower!!) because it turns out they only needed to remove 2 teeth. I love that they are not trying to just find ways to milk their clients. If something is not necessary, they simply don't do it. I highly recommend this place as I have been a satisfied customer for many, many years now.
