How to Save Money at Lehigh Valley Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

took my new kitten to the vet for wellness and an update on vaccines. Things went well other than the fact that these people tend to fail to communicate your pets needs prior to going to pay for the bill and next visit. Let me give you an example, he is a 4 month old kitten.. he is going to be neutered around 6 months. During this visit he HAD his blood drawn for feline leukemia virus to check if he is positive or negative. during this visit i get all the information regarding neutering him, but nothing about PRE OPERATION BLOODWORK (that is good for 3 months from when it is drawn) according to the lady at the front desk. but when i mention that he had his blood drawn that day she said that they could not use that blood because it would not be valid. Keep in mind that you can take multiple tubes of blood just as you would from a human. On top of that they actually took my kitten out of the room to give him these vaccines but when i bring my other cats they did it right in the room in front of me. When i mentioned this to the employee she said she had nobody to help her, meanwhile you can hear the chatter right outside the room door. All you needed to say was yes let me grab someone to help me out. I went home that night thinking he would be okay. The next day he was not using his right foot all all, non weight bearing and limping. I had to take him back to where i found he has a 103.5 fever. They gave him fever reducing medication and told me to bring him back if he is still this bad tomorrow. These people showed no compassion, no collaboration to try to make me comfortable in the room with my pet. Along with that, gave me no information prior to leaving to watch him if he catches a fever, or stops eating. As you pay they add more to your bill without asking you if you’re okay with it. Make sure you are cautious and ask many questions because they will not give you information if you do not ask. The floors are extremely dirty all times of the day. The white tile in the rooms are black and dirty. The first time i went it was towards the afternoon so i thought maybe there was just plenty of animals in this room. The answer is no, next appointment was at 11 and the conditions did not change. The first time i even went the person that takes you back didn’t address myself or my pet, she said “YOU GUYS with the cats”. No sense of professionalism at all. I will never trust this place again. All they want is you to come back many times to feed into their scam and spend more money. There was many red flags from the beginning

My vet wasn’t available they were able to get me in. Catelyn Tan was an excellent compassionate caring doctor and very sympathetic towards my situation . Went to another vet two days ago and wasn’t satisfied with what the service. Dr tan went above and beyond to get my cat some answers on her situation . My situation doesn’t look good but I’m happy the doctor is trying to get me answers. Vet tec Michelle was great as well. Very polite and knowledgeable. I saw some people complain about prices but for all the meds and tests my cat received I was surprised at the low price I paid

14 years ago we got this gentle soul. He had the respect of his 2 other siblings. And his owners love. The Drs and staff are the most compassionate and professional I have had the pleasure to deal with. This was the last of our eight dogs over a 38 yr expierence. Yes pets can be expensive, that is why it should be a huge consideration before you get one. This facility hands down is the best price and care anywhere. Even with covid practices they eased the pain of saying good bye today. Love your pets they give so much more back then we deserve.
