How to Save Money at Athens Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
My animals have been going here for years. They are friendly, and thorough. It helps that my animals trust the staff at AAH. As a rescue, my dog doesn't trust many people. He always gets a treat after his visit, and lots of love from the staff. The offices, lobby, and exam rooms are very clean and animal proof. They offer after hours emergency services for their clients (which is a major bonus!!!) Prices are very affordable. They really could get away with charging more. AAH will be my pets forever vet. Why change something that is so perfect? We love them. If you are thinking about taking your pet there, you will NOT regret it. Dr. Christiansn is the best!

Absolutely disgusting, my dog had a severe wound on his chest caused by an attack by a cat. They turned my grandmother away because they weren’t accepting new patients. I understand that but turning a hurt, wounded and scared animal away without even looking at him or making suggestions as to what to donor where to turn to is cruel, and any respectable veterinary practice would never turn down a helpless animal in need without providing at least some type of assistance. Absolutely disgraceful

I am giving 3 stars because I've only been there 1 time, and this would be the second time talking to someone in the office. I had 4 kittens that I had to bottle feed. Their mother died after giving birth. I had to break The sacks and take care of the placenta's because the mother was ill. I called Athens animal care hospital. And they assured me they could not take the kittens in for me that it was something I had to do on my own and that most of them would not make it. They were correct because only one survived. I did not have the help that I needed. They offered a free Container of Kitten milk powder but i had already bought one ,from tracktor supplies. It went so quickly that I needed more. I went down to the office. And apparently, they had changed their mind about it being free because they charged me 21$ for a small can. I told her whoever I talked to told me I could have 1 can for free, seems how i'm taking care of the kittens and they weren't able to help me.... Yet I was in a hurry on my way to work so I bought the can. The reason I'm posting this is because it is a animal hospital, and animal hospitals should care more about the animals, then soaking money out of people for animal food. I believe buying animal food from an animal hospital should cost less than if I were to go to Walmart. Or tractor supply. Also How can I trust that animal hospital now? If they told me "the can was on the house", And then when I go there and explain that, instead of finding the person who told me that, instead, asked me to pay the twenty one dollars..

Over the weekend, I called the animal hospital regarding an after hours emergency. I explained to the vet on call that my dog had been puking a little bit for the past week but for the last day had been severe and he just passed a large amount of blood included a very large clot through his butt. The vet instructed me to give him water for the next 24 hours and then give him a blend diet for a day or two before returning him his food. She said this is common with an upset stomach and stated he would be fine. I explained my concern and she still would not agree to see him. About two hours went by and then it was over. My poor Zeus passed away. He could’ve still been here if she would’ve been able to take time away from what she were doing And do her job. She just left her home empty and broken with three kids as well as myself wondering why and mad at the world. Never in 1 million years, would I recommend them to anyone
