How to Save Money at VCA Five Points Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

When needed the most, they turn you away🥲Our beloved 12 1/2 year shepherd, being treated for occasional seizures, was turned away on his final seizure. A patient there. Called to report major seizure lasting long period of time requesting an end to suffering. Referred out due to closing in an hour😡on a Friday. Another local Vet showed mercy and ended his suffering.Previously ordered meds that cost $22 only to find common OTC for $3.54. Also ordered Gabapentin for $56 only to find out $13 at our local Sam’s Club and Walmart.

I will never be back!!!! I came in one week ago with my cat Mimi. The vet glanced at his leg and paw (he had a sore) gave him antibiotics and said if it looks bad call by Monday. It was an infection so he said. I sat in the waiting room for an hour and was with the vet for 8 minutes tops!!! I called late Monday and sat on hold. I called 2 times Tuesday said a vet would get back to me. No one called. I called Wednesday. Again sat on hold a vet would get back to me. Nothing. Called Thursday. 12 minutes on hold. No vet ... He would call though. 8:50 pm I call again. I tell the woman who answered who I am she says he didn't call you? I know who you are ! Hold please. Talk to the vet finally. Booked solid but could squeeze me in Friday at 545. Come home my daughter gets our cat in the crate. He dies on the way to the vet. I am so upset. We had two dogs misdiagnosed. Our dog Simba, they said had a gut infection 350 dollars later and 3 days later we were putting him down bc he was filled with cancer Which was another 250. Our dog lotus, took her to the vet. 400+ dollars. Told us it was Lyme's. Treated her for Lyme's and it was worse misdiagnosed yet again another vet told us from five points... adrenal cancer she was only 2 years old.... She died a slow death and couldn't even stand on her final day. Aww we are sorry bring her in and we will put her to sleep.... Oh,another 250 dollars to put her to sleep... Listen I get shit happens but I am beyond pissed. I waited 4 days to speak to a vet and now my MiMi is no longer here. My Simba with his gut infection aka stomach cancer is gone and my Lolo with Lyme's diease aka adrenal cancer is gone, too. It's crazy how vets know you'll pay anything to fix your fur baby. I bet I have given over 7000 dollars to have had all my animals die with in days and months. Oh we have to do this test for 250 dollars to check this. Oh he needs put down? That will cost another 250 sorry ... If you're that freaking busy then get more help or say I'm sorry we are extremely busy I can refer you to another vet that can help you more quickly then us. But you people don't care ...it's about the money. For all I know you could of given my cat a dose of tap water and charged me 75 dollars so I would come back and spend even more money. I'm the idiot that went back ! If you want to throw away your money and deal with arrogant cocky money sucking people that call themselves vets then go there. I'm done. Thanks for killing all my animals and taking all my money to do so.

Sadly, my 14 year old dog's health took a turn for the worst last week and I was forced to decide whether or not it was time to put her down. Everyone with whom I came into contact treated me with incredible compassion and kindness from Anna who returned my call after a rambling voicemail message, the beautiful and sweet Vet Tech, as well as Dr. White. They helped me to realize that I was indeed making the best decision for my girl and went out of their way to make me comfortable with the decision, allowing me time to process and to say goodbye. I have always received great care for my pets here and can confidently recommend them.

Took a stray kitten here to get spayed. They told me that the vet would need to see her before they could make an appointment. I took her in all shots and vaccines were up to date i provided the documentation from the petwell clinic. Charged me $171 too look at her and listen to her heart. Then gave me an estimate of $600-750 to get her spayed. Borderline theft! Spoke to a friend and took her to Beaver County Humane Society. They charge $65 to spay.
