How to Save Money at Holistic Pet Vet Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Keith Weingardt is an amazing veterinarian and we are lucky we get to work with him. He has a wealth of knowledge and cares for his patients and their human companions. Dr. Keith has guided us through countless emergencies with our dog. Dr. Keith has always helped us balance our dog's pharmaceutical medical needs and holistic supplementation. There is no one else we would rather trust our dog and cat's medical care with. The office staff are also amazing and very kind. They are really fast at sending us refills and are always helpful. Thank you for all you do!

My Frankie was so sick and I had gone to Dr. Bob with Frankie’s regular checkups. My dog has anxiety so it’s hard to tell whether he is just anxious or really sick. Well in this case he really was sick! Not only on a full schedule did they squeeze him in the last minute, Dr. Bob listened to everything I said to make an assessment, even though it was probably time for him to go home. Frankie was having asthma attacks or so I thought. Turns out he had a toxin in his body. It was a hard weekend after we left, and the emergency room was so packed, I was on a hope and a prayer. I was getting flack from people about going the homeopathic route and I even questioned it after I came home that night and gave Frankie his meds that were prescribed. After a full body purge, this champion made it through and now is better then he was a few years ago. His breathing is good, his stomach isn’t gurgling, no more anxiety. He is like a puppy at 10 1/2. Words cannot express my gratitude. And had I gone to a modern day veterinarian, He may have well been prescribed the wrong thing and got sicker. I know now that the quality of life my dog has, has improved. Why wouldn’t you want your dog to spend its last years in as much comfort and joy as possible. I stick to my beliefs of whole body medicine, and believe this was nothing short of a miracle. Do your dog a favor and bring him to this caring and compassionate healing center. There is no better care. Dr. Bob and staff are the Cadillac of vets!

I heard that Holistic Pet did dental cleanings without anesthesia, and I definitely wanted to give them a try to avoid using anesthesia on my 1 year old dog Pepper. I was a bit confused about which entrance was the waiting room, but it's the smaller one without the food ...the other area is for pharmacy pickups I think :) Anywho, the staff were very friendly and welcoming. They provided my dog with fresh water & some yak cheese puffs while she waited. The paperwork was minimal (3 pages), and I actually really like that they use paperwork in a largely digital world. I like traditional things like that. I was able to go back with her for the pre-cleaning physical & talk to the vet for a bit before her cleaning started. The vet provided several nice resources for reading and for training to help Pepper's self-confidence. The vet mentioned that she uses Chinese medicine & that Pepper is likely a wood-water type. I asked more about this, and I didn't feel rushed during the vet portion of the visit. The hygienist took Pepper & it was maybe 15 min before she was finished. As an example from an anesthesia based dental practice - they want drop off at about 7AM and pickup typically at 4PM & your animal is woozy/out of sorts for potentially days afterwards. The hygienist said that her teeth didn't need very much cleaning & she introduced Pepper to the polishing process. The hygienist then did a very thorough breakdown of what to watch out for with her (she has one spot that has teeth crowding) and that she was missing some teeth that never grew in. The vet & all the staff used positive reinforcement with high value and high quality treats like beef liver and yak cheese puffs to make Pepper feel like this was a largely fun and enjoyable process. I enjoyed looking at their selection of high quality food, treats, and toys while I waited for her. The prices for the services and for the food/treats were very fair. Even their bathroom was very nice! We'll definitely be back for Pepper's 6 month cleaning & my cats already have appointments scheduled. The only little gripes I have is that the waiting room is very hot from the sun (I'm not sure what they have access to in order to cool down that space) & I didn't receive a reminder call about the appointment. They also require a deposit for your first visit - so just be aware of that too. Otherwise, nothing but praise for their work :)

While I enjoyed the DVM themselves. The Office Staff are less than pleasant to deal with. Scheduled my dogs neuter four months out. Asked multiple times if something is in my file and they could not answer a simple question. This is also the only office staff I've known to demand the owner move in my entire life while a blood draw happens. Most offices well let a 6ft 2 200lb man hold onto the animal and their animals face while a draw happens. Simply because the animal trusts the owner more than said office staff.

Dr Wiengard advised a client against life saving antibiotics and medical care for her cat. This man does not deserve a license. Holistic care should be used alongside ACTUAL medical professionals. You are killing pets.
