How to Save Money at Salem Veterinary Emergency Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have had two amazing experiences with this emergency vet. 1.5 years ago, my female shepherd tore her side open on a fence. They got her back as soon as we got there and kept us updated the entire day on pricing, what she needed, and how she was doing. We were stunned at how affordable they were for emergency anesthesia and surgical repair. They even had her back for a free check-up and restitch when she partially pulled her side back open. Last night, we had to return with our male shepherd, who sliced his paw open. I gave them the heads up that he gets nervous with new people and they went ahead and had me come back with him to keep him calm until we could sedate him so he could get his foot looked at. They were so kind and worked as fast as they could, all while having a constant influx of other patients and the phone continuously ringing. Despite how busy they were, they took the time to be patient with me and my nervous boy and to provide exceptional care. This is the only emergency vet I will go to if given the option. Shout out to the vet tech who helped Joey last night, 8/22. You went above and beyond making him and I comfortable. Pictures of my handsome boy included.

We brought our dog Lady here after a very bad experience at another emergency vet. It was the end of her life here on Earth and these people here were so kind and understanding. They walked us through to her end, let us say goodbye, cry, and have as much time as we needed. They were compassionate towards us and our fur baby. Thank you so much. We appreciate it.

Now that the ordeal is finally starting to wind down, I finally have a minute to put into words how wonderful this crew is. My 9 year old cattle dog mix had a neurological episode (her very first ever) a few weeks back. Generally speaking, I’m wary of emergency vets as I find they tend to be expensive and overpriced. BUT. Dr. Bill Williams was so kind and so understanding. The team took incredible care of my girl, loving on her and making her feel safe all while doing everything they could to figure out what was going on. They were so thorough in examination, incredibly knowledgable in vet medicine, and kind in communication. They were also straightforward on cost, running estimates for me and always checking before they did any work. They went above and beyond taking care of my girl in what was genuinely the scariest hours/days that I’ve ever experienced with her in my 9 years of having her. I would go so far as to say never go anywhere but Salem Emergency Vet if you ever find yourself in need of (dreaded) emergency services. I know I will only ever trust my girl in their care in those moments. I’d give more stars if I could. Thank you all so much for everything you did!

I really appreciate the staff that works here at this clinic, me and my husband were on a vacation for our wedding and my birthday weekend and we had drove 1.5hours to go here due to my fur baby ingesting rat poison. Once we arrived the staff was so kind and sweet with everything! There skill of compassion and respect was phenomenal, they had explained everything so well and answered any questions we had, once it was time to do diagnostics they were so slow and loving to my fur baby! If anything happens again and we are down by the coast we will definitely go here again ( hopefully not), thank you Salem veterinary staff!🤍 we thank you

Oh they were so good to Lillah. Sweet. Listened and I just can't say enough. We had to go in twice w/in 6 days. Sadly our cat had to be put down to sleep. They were so understandable and gave us as much time as needed. I would go back again. I hope I would never have to, however I have full confidence in the 2 doctors Lillah saw there. Thank you
