How to Save Money at Buckman Veterinary Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Buckman Vet has provided outstanding care for our cats. We have senior kitties each with medical conditions. Our eldest kitty passed away earlier this year and their compassion and care for end of life needs was flawless. We are so grateful that his final days were under their care. Our other senior kitty has had protein allergies and IBS for the last several years; prescription food was enough to manage her symptoms until this past year. She was in a lot of physical pain (dilated pupils, crying) and would spend most of the day/night hiding in dark spaces. Buckman was able to diagnose and treat her pain-- and now she is back to sleeping in the sun. See photo! Look at those narrow pupils! Lastly, I want to give special thanks to the team there for this outstanding service during COVID. Vet techs, support staff and vetrinarians have had one of the worst times during this pandemic. To receive such excellent care under such challenging times-- I don't have the proper words to express my gratitude to them.

I have been bringing my Great Pyrenees here for a few years and have been blown away by their treatment of him. Albus has had a lot of health problems from heart worms after being adopted to chronic skin and ear issues. Every time I've called them, they have always been so kind and quick to get him in. Albus LOVES going to the vet because of how Buckman has treated him. A dog who has severe anxiety that seemingly goes away the second he walks in here. Every vet and vet tech here was amazing and gave him so much love that he leaves with so much energy. We just moved across the country and can no longer go to Buckman vet and finding a new vet was one of the transitions we were most nervous about because nothing will compare to the service we got here.

We had a great experience today with Rachel and Dr. Johnson! We have a reactive dog and they were very helpful and patient on ensuring a smooth check in and check out process with no other dogs around. They were really honest and up front about cost and went over the fees before performing anything. They were also realistic about what is necessary for our dog and the timeline of his needs without up-selling us or rushing us in to anything. Thank you so much!

Definitely worth the 1-2 month new client waiting period and the deposit policy! I thought *I* hated going to the vet’s office just as much as my cat, but it turns out my previous office just wasn’t as great as I thought! This place runs like a well-oiled machine. I got taken back before my appointment time, then only had to wait another 2 minutes to see the vet after the tech took my cat’s history. They have amazing communication policies and I feel the most informed I’ve ever been leaving a a vet practice. I also felt like their chart-maintenance is potentially better than any I’ve seen as I believe I saw the technician scribing the whole time I was talking to the vet.

Really great support staff, and Dr. Carr is kind and thorough. They follow up every exam with an email summary for after-care. They have squeezed us in with last minute Friday afternoon appointments with same day notice when it was urgent two different times. Parking is on-street, so plan to circle the block and side streets if you are driving.
