How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I have 2 wellness plans with Banfield, and I’m happy with them - I think the wellness plans are a good value for routine care. The 2 star review is strictly for the location of the Uptown location. I feel very unsafe every time I go here. It appears the business does next to nothing to clean up the disgusting messes left by homeless people in their parking lot and outside their front door. The other day I was waiting in my car, in their parking lot, for them to open after their lunch break, and a crazy homeless man tried to reach into my car. I had the back window open for my dog, and the homeless man staggered up and was reaching for my car when my big dog took notice and started barking, which scared him away. But there is zero security around and there are always sketchy people around this area, so be very aware an cautious outside this location.

I brought my cat in 2 weeks ago and he was seen by Nicol Alcain with concerns of constipation and swelling by his tail. I asked the vet to recommend stool softeners and if the swelling was related to the constipation. She told me there was no way the constipation was related to the swelling and that there are no stool softeners that I can give my cat to help. She sent us home with an unnecessary antibiotic shot, fluids and little help. I brought my cat back in for a recheck with a different vet and he confirmed that all of my concerns were correct. That I can get him stool softeners and that the swelling is related to his severe constipation. They are now treating his severe constipation and getting him the help he needs. Dr. Alcain completely dismissed my concerns when my cat could have gotten help two weeks ago. I’m relieved this problem didn’t get any worse after she sent us home. Instead he’s been uncomfortable at home with no help. Glad he was seen by a different vet this time. I will not be seeing her again!

I would be pretty wary of going here. We had a cat who had FIV and was very sick with a respiratory infection for the entire time we adopted him. We signed up with the wellness plan because we knew we would be visiting often, but the only good part about that was the unlimited visits. Our cat recently passed, but throughout the whole process I was pretty shocked with the lack of compassion. I understand that it was during a time where they were short staffed, so I don't blame the staff personnel themselves and I understand they are probably overworked, underpaid and underappreciated. However, when it came time to have that discussion of euthanasia, there really wasn't any discussion, and there must have been some form of miscommunication because they thought we were expecting to do it that day. When we went to go pick up our cat from his medication follow-up, the doctor was heading out and just told us how euthanasia works. When I asked about the options (it took 3 days to call and get an answer) because we wanted to bury him, they told us they would give us a box to take him home in. I don't know what I was expecting, but I definitely was not expecting a random box they had in the back for a shipped order. I don't know, maybe a special box or some sort of plain white box? Either way, we were disappointed once again to find out that we had to keep paying for the wellness plan even after our friend passed. I wouldn't really recommend them, but if you do sign up for the wellness plan, I would read the contract VERY carefully. We won't be using their services anymore and I think these franchised vets are more business oriented than customer care. Two stars though, because the staff made us feel that they really adored our lil scrappy special needs boy throughout his visits :)

Seriously rethink going to this place! They truly care more about the money than the well-being of your pet! $1000 later and my dog is still recovering from a basic stick wound to the shoulder after a surgery that he had about 5 months ago! I Was never given any instructions on how to treat, and or clean it! Obvious lack of experience is presented in this "clinic" Dr. Radcliffe insisted she cleaned everything out of the wound, but after a month it gets infected again. So we went somewhere else only to find that there were still objects in it! Thanks a lot, might be time for a new profession!

Zero stars. Lack of decorum. And lack of either caring or just plain passive aggressive behavior. I've been to many banfiled and prefer Banfield. Literally frequented Banfield the whole life of my dog. I'd go to another Banfield and actually am.
