How to Save Money at Compassionate Care Oregon City: Home Pet Euthanasia & Pet Cremation

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I’m not even sure what words to use to describe the experience. I’ve never been so devastated and had people be so kind, considerate and professional. Remi was a special dog. He was supposed to be put down because no one would adopt him. He was a handful to say the least but the most loyal and protective dog I’ve ever known. Having the ability for him to pass at home, comfortable and so well cared for was a blessing. Thank you just doesn’t quite cut it. We were extremely lucky to have stumbled upon this company in our time of need. Dr Josie, thank you for taking care of Remi and (as important) for taking care of all of us. You were exactly what we needed.

Even though we are heartbroken after losing our best friend, it's impossible for me to sing the praises of this organization loudly enough. Just knowing that we could count on Compassionate Care at any time gave us confidence that we could do right by our beloved Manny in his final weeks. Yesterday was exceptionally hard on all of us; we lost a cherished member of our family. But Dr. Casey Choat was a paragon of an empathetic professional. We will be eternally grateful for her support in Manny's last moments. This was never going to be easy, but we feel so lucky that this was the way Manny was able to go: in our lap, at home, with love pouring out from everyone including Casey. Thank you all for doing this most difficult work. It makes a tremendous difference.

This whole experience was mind alteringly life changing. Having to say goodbye your pet is the absolute worst, but Dr. Lori Gibson was able to make the terribly sad situation into something beautiful. I cannot thank Dr. Lori Gibson enough for all the love, care, and compassion she showed us. She really validated our emotions and wants during the whole process, and was very clear about the procedure. We had to put our 17yr old dog, Coco, to sleep. Dr. Gibson was able to diagnose the cause of Coco's passing, ensure she wasn't in pain & was comfortable, which gave us so much closure. She also gave us plenty of time with Coco, and only went into the final step when we (or Coco) were ready. Not only was she compassionate to us humans, but also to our other pets through the process, by ensuring they were also able to say goodbye to Coco. I cannot thank this wonderful service and Dr. Gibson enough. Having Coco comfortably pass away in the comfort of her home, in the arms of her dad (my husband), we couldn't ask for anything more perfect. Then, to make everything even more better, she was tranfered into a cute basket with a brand new blanket provided by them. That's how she was transported to the crematory. I'd like to add that they own their crematory, so they guarantee the ashes you receive truly is your beloved pet. Not having to worry about that is great. 1000/10 would recommend. Thank you so much ❤️

It feels odd leaving a review about something so sad.... but, Carrie felt like family. She was incredibly caring, compassionate and seemed almost equally effected by our loss. She explained every step and gave us all the time and privacy to experience and process everything that was happening. She handled our guy with all the care and love that we would have. The entire experience felt right. I felt ok, letting him go to her, having her drive away with him. I trusted her with our most precious family member. The whole experience ended with a much needed hug, before she left.

Despite how horrible it was to have to say goodbye, Josie made things easier for us and for our buddy. She even suggested a way to help our other dog accept his loss and grieve in his own way. I don't know if it's anything other than dog psychology or if it's even remotely accurate but it felt right. She was amazing. And while I'm not looking forward to our next meeting I hope that she's the one that helps us when it does happen again.
