How to Save Money at Healing Arts Animal Care
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I brought Henry, my 12 year old lab, to Healing Arts Animal Care when he started to experience mobility issues. At our first visit Dr. Mandi and her team conducted a very thorough examination and created a care plan tailored to his needs. We have been maintaining care here for several months and have seen such a huge improvement! He is able to navigate our stairs with relative ease, he is able to lay down and get up without trouble, and he is back to enjoying his longer walks in the neighborhood! Henry lights up when we pull into the parking lot at Healing Arts. It’s his favorite place to visit these days! Everyone is so kind and considerate of his needs, and there are always many treats to be had. We feel so fortunate to have found Dr. Mandi and the whole team at Healing Arts.

After my little dachshund had surgery following the loss of use of her two hind legs, the neurology doctor that did the surgery recommended Health Arts Animal Care. I was happy to receive the recommendation and was highly satisfied with Healing Arts. My dog has always been shy and she hates water, but after just a couple visits, she warmed up to the friendly and knowledgeable staff at Healing Arts and was even walking on the underwater treadmill without protesting too much. The staff was great and they gave my wife and I great ideas for exercises to do with our dog at home to help her regain strength and mobility. I would recommend Healing Arts Animal Care for any of your pet's "physical therapy" type of needs. They helped to get my dog to reach her maximum ability after her injury and surgery.

I took Henry to Healing Arts Animal Care after he had suffered from a slip disk. He is around 15 and not terribly open to people and places he doesn’t know. Everyone was so welcoming and kind to him. He is doing well and I am so thankful for all the help and care that Dr. Mandi and the staff gave us.

I was very impressed with the care my dog received at Healing Arts Animal Care. Dr. Mandi and her staff were especially accommodating in working with me and my dog, who is vet phobic, to help his ensure his appointment was as stress-free as possible. I believe the relaxed atmosphere, the low-stress handling, and being given the time and space he needed to explore and settle in the room (which was clean, comfortable, carpeted, and had the feel of a bedroom or sitting room, rather than a clinic), all contributed to him having successful appointments, including an initial exam, several laser therapy sessions, and a shock wave session. He navigated these appointments better than I ever thought possible, and I was so proud of him! Much of this is thanks to HAAC's approach. I also appreciate the time Dr. Mandi took to answer my many questions. Working in the animal care field myself, I know how busy clinics can be, and the demand on vets and their staff, and so I was especially grateful for the time they took with us. I continue to keep in contact with Healing Arts Animal Care and will not hesitate to go back if and when my dog needs to. I am very grateful they are here for the pets and pet parents of the Portland metro area!

Our wonderful dog Rose was diagnosed with IVDD, a bulging disc in her neck. She began collapsing in her front legs while walking and was struggling with her mobility. Rose is only six years old. We were pretty devastated and decided we would, of course do whatever we needed to do to help her heal, or at least regain good mobility. We had an MRI done so they could find the exact spot and then we were recommended to Healing Arts Animal Care for some services in rehab. We were immediately impressed with everyone we dealt with. Rose did a six week program where she received laser therapy, walking on the water treadmill and lots of PT exercises each week to do at home. Each week Rose’s mobility improved, and by the end of the program she had made a huge turn around. We are so incredibly thankful for Dr. Mandi and the entire team at Healing Arts Animal Care. Every appointment we felt supported and Rose became comfortable with going and she really liked the water treadmill! I truly cannot recommend Healing Arts Animal Care enough. They were wonderful and an absolute game changer for the furry love of our lives!
