How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Ive been to several banfields since I began my dogs wellness plan. The progressridge banfield is the best location I've been to so far. I thought about canceling my plan because of the bad experience from other locations. However this banfield actually cares about it's patients and makes the effort to have your pets seen in a timely manner. They've seen my pets for eye cysts, belly issues, ear infections, dental cleaning, etc... my golden has no problems being seen, but my husky has a lot of anxiety. They always do their best to keep him calm. Dr knox explains the details of the visit and the staff members are all super friendly!

The only reason for the one star is because the staff was friendly and bc of the many offices it was convenient. However I will never recommend Banfield again, due to the thousands of dollars I spent on my dog because they told me for over 4 years of going to them that my dog had yeast infections in both his ears. With the diagnosis, I bought the treatments of pills and ear washes, trusting that the trained professionals were telling me the truth. Irrated that nothing was fixing/helping the problem I sought out a second opinion. I am so incredibly thankful that I did because I found out that there was no yeast infection to be had instead two different cultures in his ears, went home with a different medicine for his ears, which were cleared up in about two weeks and haven't had any issues since.

I do recommend checking out trustpilot for more comprehensive reviews but here is mine. They're impossible to contact, I've never been able to successfully call them over the past two weeks. I signed up for their OWP and they really push the limits of their advertisement to make it seem better than it actually is. They make it seem like you can contact them at any time, but their petchat and customer service is all AI...it isn't even real people. you have 2 virtual visits per year, but it is impossible to schedule because it has to be scheduled through the hospital, and they never pick up the phone, so this is some kind of feature you don't actually get to use.

Every time we need to bring our dog in or pick up his medications, we go in within their hours of operation and they always seem to have their doors locked and nobody up front by 4pm when they are supposed to be open until 6pm. Staff has not been very friendly whenever we have been able to get an appointment. Nobody ever answers the phone when calling within the hours of operation. Anytime we get there (when they are actually open) we have to wait up front at LEAST 30 minutes before being seen/helped because nobody is up front for check in or anything. This location specifically has given us so many issues, will be transferring our dog elsewhere

Ive only taken my kitten for appointments at this location for his last two appointments and they have the same level of friendliness and great service as any other Banfield. Little Dijon is always in great hands with them! Sure, I may be a little biased because they called my kitten one of the sweetest BUT I think that only proves my point that they really pay attention and care for their furry clients! My handsome guy is healthy and has been for his 4 years thanks to Banfield!
