How to Save Money at Trenton Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Amazing treatment. I have a small chihuahua who can be a total asshole, and the staff and veterinarians know exactly how to handle her. She was so happy after her visit with Justin today, although she was doped up, she was very excited! Thanks TPH. You are amazing!

I had serious concerns about a treatment plant related to one of my dogs and they were not getting better. When I reached out to management about my concerns, they said “well get back to you” and I never heard anything. I spent thousands of dollars trying to help my dog and she only got worse & worse with their recommended diets and medications. All of my dogs had to be on fear free meds to attend their appointments, whereas every other vet had been able to make my dogs feel safe. My dog ended up having to be shaved and treated with wound antibiotics for like 4 weeks. I will never go here, and would not recommend it. Your concerns will not be heard nor will they be taken seriously.

I first took my cat to Trenton Pet Hospital in Nov 2024. They were so very nice to deal with initially, but the first words out of their mouth was there would be a charge to my visa before the appointment. Money always seemed to be their first topic. I was told he needed a tooth extracted, which I already knew. The price was going to be 2300. He got bloodwork done, and the appointment was made to get his tooth extracted. I took him in, and about 45 minutes later, I got a call that they had to stop the procedure because his heart rate went very low. (This is a cat that had no issues other than a tooth issue before he was put under an anesthetic. They brought him out of the anesthetic, and I took him home later in the day, but he did not seem himself at all after that. They advised me they needed x- rays done to see what had happened . I told them to go ahead. That procedure was 1267, plus the first visit of 300. I took him home and waited for the results. A week later, they called and said he had bronchial pneumonia (which he showed absolutely no signs of having beforehand)! They prescribed me meds another which was another 397 dollars. This is all in a matter of a week. He took his meds, and he seemed ok for a bit. Then he started having no energy. He didn't want to be around us, which was unusual. The next thing. He started eating less. I assumed it was from the meds. But then he got worse and quite eating. I contacted TPH on the 27 of December. They advised me that the visit alone was going to be 1200 dollars. That was without tests. I told them I couldn't afford that. Their response back was that that we are not open on the weekends, and you would probably have to get emergency care. No compassion at all. After spending all that money there. Today, Dec 28th, we had to make a very difficult decision to get my beautiful kitty euthanized. Because he is suffering. They are greedy and just care about money. Take your pet out of Trenton and go elsewhere.

I was taking my animals there for a couple years. Had taken my cat in multiple times for an ear infection that just wouldn't go away. Vet prescribed a bunch of steroids, anti-inflammatories and antibiotics. About 3 days after we started the medicine the vet called and asked me to stop giving cat the meds. The next day the vet called again and asked us to bring our cat in because the prescribed meds were not allowed to ve taken together and could lead to kidney disease. They scheduled a bunch of bloodwork and followup appointments to cover there ass. Some of these appointments they even tried to charge my spouse even though they said it was all covered.

I just moved in the area a few months ago and Trenton Pet Hospital was so accommodating and helpful as my doggie had just gotten surgery. This will definitely be our vet as long as we live out here. They are very thorough and prompt and have a very kind staff. Every experience I’ve had so far has been delightful. Thanks for taking great care of my fur baby!
