How to Save Money at Niagara Veterinary Emergency Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google

Was told it wouldn't be long and be updated. Neither of these happened. After waiting an hour. A woman came in crying with her dog. Stating the same issues that Geoff was dealing with. They were rushed in and taken care of immediately. I politely told woman at the counter that I am leaving. Stating that my dog was having same issues. Because I didn't come in emotional I get bumped. This Is the third time I have been there. The third time I have walked out prior to being seen by vet. It's 24 hours because that's how long you have to wait before you get in. I have read a few other posts here. Did someone pay the $265 gouge prior to being attended to? I'm sure it takes so long due to unnecessary tests, x rays etc that will drive up the cost. Staff were polite and friendly I'll admit. But just horrible business. I have noticed a common theme in reading the reviews here! Every 5 🌟 🌟 rating is from someone putting their animal down. Maybe 2 for treatment. What a waste!

Before you enter the clinic you see a sign "this building is filled with compassionate, hard working and intelligent people". I'm not disputing that they work hard or that the vets have intelligence. My problem is with the way the whole entire clinic is run. At the front desk you have people that don't seem to care, or lack the knowledge, especially if you have an end of life emergency. The "compassionate" part they claim the building is filled with is an absolute lie. We had to rush our dog that had already been there twice in a 3 day period to have end of life measures taken. He was left in a room with us howling in pain for an hour. The vet tech couldn't even get an IV line in which put him through more pain. No water, no communication, nothing. Just left him to suffer. We asked for help, no one could do that. Our beloved family dog was begging for his pain to be over, and this clinic couldn't even get that right. Shame on you. Our pets have only us to be their voice, you took that right away from us. We've had other pets euthanized before, it was nothing like this clinic. The way this was handled was traumatizing. They didn't even take a paw print. When we called about that, they said "you didn't fill out the paperwork properly". How about no one even asked us? So now we don't even have that keepsake. I will never walk through those doors again. They charge enough - spend some of that on training your staff to show compassion. It's really not that hard. Our animals give us their lifetime of love, maybe take some cues from them.

This evening we had the unfortunate task of euthanizing our little potato. Steve was a rescue guinea pig that enjoyed a lavish lifestyle for the few years we had together. He was smart, smelly, and never lost a staring contest. Steve had free reign of the main floor and knew what the refrigerator held, he also knew exactly where to sit and announce that we were late for breakfast. To the staff of Niagara Veterinary Emergency Clinic; we would like to thank you for your compassion and professionalism during our short visit. Your gentle and kind approach to making Steve comfortable was very much appreciated. Thank you Dr. Christine, Steve was in very good hands. Wheep Wheep Steve!

I've come to this office and emailed twice now. Both times the staff was so kind in calming my nerves and giving me answers to what's happening to my pets so quickly. They are an amazing team, calmly addressing the issues in a timely manner. Both times my pets have not needed to actually see the vet, the staff was able to talk the situation over with the vet and give me the advise needed to care for my pets in whatever state they were in. Thank you!

i had an emergency with my cat in the middle of the night and this clinic was nothing short of wonderful. i’ve worked in vet med for years and i know how brutal the field can be. everyone i interacted with was absolutely amazing. they were so kind to me and so understanding. my cat is okay and home now but they made an incredibly scary time just a bit easier to cope with and i am so grateful for that.
