How to Save Money at Brimley-Lawrence Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I've been a customer of this clinic for years, and they take excellent care of both my dog and cat. The clinic is always clean and well-maintained, which I appreciate. What stands out the most, however, is the reasonable cost of their services compared to most other veterinary clinics. My first visit here was prompted by a frustrating experience at another clinic where I paid nearly two thousand dollars for inadequate treatment. In contrast, this clinic charged me about 20% of that amount, and my dog started improving within just three days. I understand that the cost of veterinary services can vary due to many factors, but in my experience over the years, this clinic consistently provides cost-effective care. Thank you.

We had to come in as emergency, on Sunday, November 10th, 2024. Our Bella (cat) was 14 years old and was in the process of passing away. We knew we needed euthanasia as she was suffering in her finally hours. The only places that were open on Sunday and the day before Remembrance Day was animal hospitals and Brimley- Lawrence Animal Clinic. I called the staff first thing when they opened. They took my information and were so caring. They told me to call them a half hour before coming in so they could have a room ready for us when we walked in. (They knew I was coming from Oshawa). When we got there we filled out all the paper work and paid in our room before doing anything. (Which I honestly liked this because I didn’t have to worry about it afterwards). The vet came in and looked at Bella and did say she was definitely in her finally moments and was suffering which we already knew. He was very compassionate and answered all our questions. We chose to have Bella euthanized and cremated. After everything was done we were told we could stay in the room with Bella for as long as we wanted too. They gave us our privacy and space which was very kind of them. I honestly can say I would go back if I ever had too in the future. (Currently no pets right now after the passing of our Bella). This place is VERY VERY run down and outdated but if you can look past that and know the staff and veterinarian are so compassionate and did this at a low cost. My Bella (cat) was very petite and always 7lbs 3oz her whole life. When weighing her there she was 4lbs 6oz. She had lost weight rapidly in a week and a half and became very sick and without warning. (Also age plays a part too). Euthanizes- $248.00 Cremation and a paw print of our choosing (this is done by Gateway company) was $247.00 It cost me $497.00 total. They told me it would take two weeks to get Bella back. It took under two weeks. I hope that helps someone else in need of a veterinarian in an emergency state like we did. I saw some reviews on here that sounded awful and I can honestly say I have nothing bad to say about them. Thank you to all the staff and veterinarian that day. You made it very peaceful to say goodbye to our girl. 😭🌈🐾💜 Rest in paradise our sweet girl! Xox

I was really satisfied with my first appointment at Brimley Animal Clinic. The staff members were friendly and welcoming, and Dr. Kamal Ahmad was very patient with my dog and provided a lot of useful information. The prices are quite affordable compared to my previous vet. I highly recommend this clinic to anyone considering bringing their pet here.

I had brought my dog here since he was a puppy. Since I've had him I've had no serious issues with this place. This past summer he had really bad allergies. Brought him in, had to gwt allergy shots that cost me over $300. A few days had passed and I noticed there was no change with the allergies. I had contacted the vet to advise. They advised me to give the medication more time to work. I allowed more time and it was not better. They told me I could come in no charge. The vet stayed not to worry. Allowed some more time to pass and the allergies had gotten worse. When I reached out for help again I was told they would need to charge me. Didn't understand why I was being charged as I had brought him in before and was told not to worry. And was not charged....that was no type of '"exam" As soon as it gets worse they wanted to charge me...probably another $300 allergy shot that does nothing ...anyways thought I'd write this review
